I am looking at making my own tether and was curious what length most people use?

I’d say 8-10ft is prob average. But the best thing about DIY is you can do whatever ya want . I have a “short” which is like 7.5 ft and a “long” that’s around 12ft . I kinda like the long cause I can stay hooked up all the way to the bottom step of my top stick

Including the knots or sewn ends, ready to use, sitting in my pack right now my tether is around 7’ and has worked for every sit in the last two seasons.

I started saddle hunting this year. Initially I used a separate tether line (now I use my rappel line). I started long - 9+ feet thinking I'd want it high. After 50+ sits I'm of the opinion tethers can be shorter than linesman rope - if you tether in after climbing. But if you use it for one sticking, some extra length like 10' may come in handy.
