Tethrd HYS Strap - Made in CHINA :(

Just received my Tethrd Hys Strap in the mail today. Had I known it was made in China, I would not have purchased it. The only way the consumer was to know this is by receiving the product, as there is no indication of country of origin on the Hys Strap product page.

This seems very deceptive advertising (or lack of advertising), in that the American Flag and Made in America/USA are prominent on (almost) all of the Tethrd products. In fact, at the bottom of their home page, there is a Made in USA symbol both before and after where it says Tethrd - Get Connectd/Copyright 2018! I guess they need to update that.

If shipping it back wasn't so expensive (as a percentage of the product price), I would do it and just make my own.

Curious how many other products are not made here in the US and not labeled as such on the Tethrd site. Every product that I see on Amazon, etc. indicates the country of origin, so much so you would think there is a law to ensure the consumer is aware of it.

For what it is, the product is fine. I just would like to keep my money supporting local manufacturers.

In order to keep up with demand they had moved production of some accessories to China so the US shops could focus on producing saddles. The saddles are all American made. So you can have it fast or made in America, but not both.

And they did say it on one of their Facebook posts.

It's just a strap, pretty sure what you're typing on wasn't made in America.

River Hunter,

I don't do Facebook, and I'm not the only one. I relied on their website, which should take priority over any other advertising.

I'm sure my computer wasn't made in the US, but I'm also sure it was advertised with the country of origin.

Given their alleged Facebook post, it is curious why they haven't changed that slogan on their homepage.

Just because it was said in a FB post doesn't mean it is available for all to see. Many many people do not have FB.

I sort of look at the facebook argument like a public notice in a newspaper. If you choose not to buy the paper then its your fault you missed the public notice. A Facebook account is free. If you choose not to have one that is perfectly fine, but dont complain when you don't see something posted there because it was available to you, you just chose otherwise. Don't get me wrong, I fully understand the argument against being on FB, but its a choice you make and bear the consequences. Many businesses use it as part of their public communications.

bowhuntr09,

Oh to the contrary, your Facebook account is far from free. Do you understand what rights you gave up to have that "free" account? Did you actually read the user agreement?

While I understand your argument, the company's own website should be the end-all-be-all of all communications regarding products, especially if it is in direct contrast with what is posted elsewhere. You just can't say Made in America on your website, and then claim they posted a notice on FB and all is good. All Tethrd has to do is change their website to alleviate the deceptive advertising.

Further, just because they decided to take the pressure off of their own manufacturing doesn't require them to ship the manufacturing overseas. That is conflating two separate issues. They could have easily moved the manufacturing of the accessories to another US company and maintained compliance with their slogan.

I too was a little bummed when saw the made in China tags on my recent purchases. I also do not use social media so was unaware myself. Like stated above they could have soured other US manufacturing and I hate to say it but I bet they won’t and it’ll stay overseas.

DC10,

Where is it on their website? I just scoured it, but couldn't readily find it. And what exactly are your referring to as being on their website? I certainly see "Made in America", "Oh yeah…it’s 100% made in America", American Flags on many products, but nothing regarding China or the Chinese Flag. There is no search function on the News page, so I didn't read every single article, nor would anyone expect a consumer to dig that deeply. The country of origin should be listed on the product page, just like it is for the Mantis.

Like you always buy American made products right. Who cares climb a tree please.

Ok on their website, the only page it says 100% American made is in the description of the Mantis.

So they are not falsely advertising country of origin.

No go to trophylines website and tell me where their saddles are made.

Apex7,

I never said that and that is a strawman's argument. My point was about transparency. The products that I do buy if not made in the US, are labeled as such, so that the consumer knows where his money is going. If I had a choice I would buy American, wouldn't you? Support the local archery shops, local manufacturing, etc. The company wasn't transparent about it and perhaps purposely so, so I wasn't able to make that decision.

I certainly would pay more to buy American made products because I know it is supporting Americans.

River Hunter,

Did you see the bottom of the homepage? There is a "Made in America" symbol both before and after the "Tethrd-Get Connected - Copyright 2018" slogan. In fact, it is on the bottom of every single page including the HYS strap! I would interpret that to mean everything made by Tethrd is in fact "Made in America". There is no asterisk saying only certain products and that is certainly not how Greg and Ernie promoted the company.

I believe it is a law that the country of origin has to be provided. I could be wrong, but why else would all the product on Amazon have it?

It's not like you spent thousands of dollars. If you don't want it contact Tethrd and I sure they will take care of it for you.

Apex7,

I have contacted them, especially about their website. We'll see what they say. But I've contacted them before with some questions, but like many others, I have never gotten a response.
