Tethrd One Stick Gen 3's - Season review so far

I make my own aiders. 1” tubular webbing with a 1/4” peice of delrin rod jammed inside some reinforced fuel tubing inside the webbing… it’s perfect. Steps are some what solid and spring right back to shape.
You using a single removable aider as you go up each stick?

Got 4 Tethrd One Sticks in the mail.

3 have absolutely zero wiggle in the steps.

1 has zero wiggle in the top step, but the bottom step barely moves. You can't see the movement but feel that it moves maybe the thickness of a single piece of typing paper (so around 0.1 mm).

I'm gonna call it good because I feel that sending it back for that amount of wobble will make me look crazy. But one of the 8 total steps does have the slightest wiggle. I'll just keep an eye on it and if it gets worse I'll consider sending it back.

I asked myself "if Tethrd One sticks hadn't had the bad wobbles and the recall, then would 0.1 mm of wiggle even register to me?"....the answer was "No"....in fact I'd never have noticed if I hadn't been looking for it intently.

I climbed one stick up a telephone pole with each stick in turn and stood with one foot on each side of each step and did a little bounce, and nothing about any of the sticks changed at all.

Anyone with experience similar?

Out of the ones I have, I’ve got one stick that has a slight wiggle on a top step, but like you said, nothing to be overly concerned about at the moment. They’re all as solid as my beast sticks.

The rope containment button on the bottom is steel against steel roll pin.

Anyone concerned to might trap water in there and accelerate corrosion? That and the rivet on the cleat are the only corrodible parts of the stick. I might hit with a little CLP and then remove the button bolt once a year and inspect.

My 2 cents. These are definitely a nice upgrade from the gen 1s. My steps are solid. No wiggle I can find.
They're definitely quieter than the gen 1s were. I suspect from the caps pressed in. I have lots more stealth stripping to go. I like the rope system but if I had the choice I'd still use the versa button with the truckers hitch. Just like the first gen, there's still some slack in the line after you set the stick. It isn't much that most would care but I'm absolutely anal about it. You cannot kick out a trucker-hitched beast stick no matter how hard you may try. However, it's much better than the first gen because of the angled teeth. These set much better. I didn't like the pins either but tried vaseline on them and they're much improved now.
I don't care what any tape measure says, these def have less foot room than beast sticks. I tried them side by side on the same trees and over and over the beasts feel roomier. I have to have my feet splayed out usually on these when I go up. There isn't much to grab onto either when going up and down.
Overall I like them. They wont be a complete replacement for my beast sticks. I got them because I can tuck them perfectly behind the stand so there's no snag factor. I mainly hunted thick mtn laurel this year and the snag with beasts is rage-inducing. Wanna punch a tree inducing. Migraine causing bad. 20221215_121314_compress5.jpg

I like that camo pattern, what is it called? I just went with smoke because I knew I liked it.

I've only tried these at ground level, but I think this helped me, maybe you can try if you haven't.

I put the tag end of the amsteel over the stick and looped around tube once, then pulled as this give 2x leverage (still not the 3x of the trucker's hitch). I then brought the tag end back over and went through the cleat. It seemed to help.

on the gen3, are folks still sandpapering the tree teeth to prevent any squeak?

You can put some copper anti-seize on there to give you some peice of mind.

I did. Vaseline and sandpaper. Not to prevent any squeak, simply to have them insert easier.

Are you talking about the pegs? I'm talking about metal teeth that touch tree.

It's just gray. I went direct to uncle Lou because I refuse to pay tethrds insane shipping prices

I'm talking about the pegs. No issues with the metal teeth that touch the tree. They actually bite surprisingly well.

I like that idea, but I’m curious what Tethrd would say about it. With it being such a lightweight tube, I’m curious if it’s tested for any different forces that may add

food for thought.....i just assumed it was okay since it somewhat replicates the side force on the cleat but adds a constriction around the tube as well

What is the main difference between the Gen 2 and the newer brown Gen 3 sticks? The Gen 2 had recall and testing procedures done to them but other than that is just the color?

Gen 3 is the recalled Gen 2 after being tested. I really don’t know that but I believe that’s the answer
