Tethrd Phantom vs. WE Yarak?

I feel Tethrd has found a saddle design that just simply works without all the bulk.
We are all different in size and setup style so others may have a totally different opinion between these two saddles.

I think I agree. Need more time with the phantom though. I have tried a couple pleated saddles and am just not sold on that design.
 
I was going to pick up a pleated mesh saddle from a maker that will remain unnamed, however, after the brief amount of time in the Phantom, I'm going to cancel that order.

Looking back I wish I had described "pleated saddles" like you did instead of just saying they sucked in a public venue :)

before the phantom, would you have said buy a yarak?

there isn't much out there about a phantom that isnt a glowing review. This is looking like the real deal.

I like how you kept it short and sweet. hahaha.

seeing the phantom and how small it was I was not thinking comfort. But it really is quite comfortable.

The yarak I used the entire season last year. Spent about 50/50 sitting/leaning and used a ring of steps about 80% of the time and predator and ridge runner the rest.

I thought the yarak was pretty comfortable. A little too much seat for straddling the tree. I would have to fiddle with pulling the bottom strap up or it would dig into my legs. The leg buckles were terrible. I guess the same on the kite? I cut the buckles off and put ghooks on. The mollie layout is terrible also. However, before the phantom came out I felt the yarak was the most comfortable saddle followed by the kestrel. I did some hanging in the phantom this weekend. I then put the yarak on and wondered how the hell I used it all season.

that is a really nice evaluation of the yarak. those are hard to come by, since so few of them exist. I was really looking forward to a flex/yarak comparision to the phantom, and you just did a great job. things are looking phantom!

I used a flex or Jx 3 most of last year. I found the flex comfortable but I want less bulk too. If I want comfort I will take my JX 3.
I do hope the phantom or recon or even the H2 solves the bulk comfort balance. I could never get comfortable in a mantis. Thanks for the review. The phantom is in the mail. The recon and H2 have been delivered.
The Kestrel was comfortable too but more bulk and weight than is necessary.

With the phantom I've found you can get pretty comfortable leaning and sitting with your knees in the tree or cradling the tree, its a lot more comfy than my trophyline but it's still not on the same comfort level as my recon sling. I do have a kite and flex on order but its going to be another month or 2 before I can get my hands on them. The cruzr saddles are nice, they're probably the closest thing to a yarak you'll find for awhile

Thanks for the review. The Phantom sounds like a real contender. I’m probably in the same boat as several folks around here, but I’m trying to get into a saddle for the first time before next season. Tidbits like this really do help.

Probably a long shot, but do you have a Recon sling or similar to review vs the Phantom as well (is it too soon to ask)?

No, I don’t have any plans to get a recon sling. I am pretty content with what I have right now.
