Tethrd Predator Bag and HYS strap now on the website

Here is how you make the mods (direct paste from social media post):

"Okay, so The Hunting Public dropped part 1 of HOW TO HUNT FROM A TREE SADDLE
with Greg and Ernie. Since then there has been a lot of questions regarding the shoulder straps on the Predator Pack Ernie was wearing. As Ernie mentioned, they are somewhat of a DIY project, true to the roots of all things saddle hunting. This is a cool little project to tackle if you feel so inclined.

Your Predator Pack is going to come with the minimalist shoulder straps, so you’ll already have most of the parts you need (1” webbing and three bar sliders).

You will obviously need a pair of padded shoulder straps. We have used the Xray shoulder straps from Kifaru, coyote brown, (for the E&E) on two of the Predator Packs and they are fantastic. https://store.kifaru.net/mobile/shoulder-straps-p121.aspx

These are what Ernie has on his in the video, but you can use any old backpack straps you might have lying around to save a little money.

If you choose the Kifaru straps you will have to remove the 2” webbing and 2” three bar slider from the tops of each strap. It’s easy with a stitch popper or a sharp razor blade, just take your time.

You will need access to a sewing machine for the final step, which is sewing on a section of the 1” webbing with the 1” three bar slider. You will want to have about a 1-1/2” long finished loop above the top of each strap. This makes it easier to attach and remove from the pack. In the pics below I used approximately a 10” piece of 1” webbing for each strap. This allows a fold over for additional strength and to hide the cut end of the strap.

Since you already have the stock straps, simply cut the top 5” off of each strap leaving the three bar sliders intact. Fold 1” under leaving 4”exposed. Position so the center of the three bar slider is 1-1/2” above the strap as mentioned earlier. Stitch into place and you are done. Re-use the bottom portions of your stock straps on the new padded straps.

Tethrd will eventually be offering a production version of these as a strap upgrade for your Predator Pack. Until then this is a pretty easy DIY mod. Hopefully this is all clear as mud!! Have fun!!

Just a thought. You should add a layer of foam to the predator pack's construction. It could then double purposed as a knee pad. Just strap it to the tree in front of you.
If it had the foam sewn into it of course.
This is a great idea!

Boom that just happened

So cool at the innovative ideas & feedback that SH.com fosters

Also the speed at which the new ideas get incorporated into product builds

Great time to be a SH & bad time to be my wallet

I had said in a previous post in this thread attaching a pad to the pack and using it as a knee pad, guess great minds think a like lol

Are there pics showing how to do this? Thanks

The supporting pics are on Tethrd's facebook page. In the woods right now with poor service. Otherwise, I would post them.

I ordered the pack and received quickly! Used it this morning, it’s great but IMO it needs the shoulder strap upgrade. I want this so bad to replace my pack. The kifaru straps are 41$ shipped , ugh! Seems inside the pack could be quieter , maybe fleece sewn inside would be great. The metal clips on the straps are noisy. I’m just being honest , I think this pack is awesome just needs a few tweaks. If I’m really being honest I dislike that it says made in China! I get it though! Just one of those things. Tethrd really did a great job but just wish they would have gone further. At this point who cares about price point. I would pay more not to do anything and wait longer. With all being said , very happy with the purchase. I’m very excited to see where Tethrd can take us a few years from now! BTW the hys strap is ****ing awesome!

I agree with the shoulder strap inclusion.. they should already be included. Claiming DIY abilities for people is a cop out. I have watched the facebook DIY instruction and read through what was posted previously here but for me it is a pain having to find something to order then have to put something together. Kifaru at $41?? Try adding expedited shipping to Canada and 25%+ for exchange... crazy! I hope these tethrd straps areavailable next week!

Pretty awesome if you ask me! Added Alice pack shoulder straps, molle pouch on the back to carry bolts and miscellaneous items, fit water bladder and predator platform inside main pouch. If it wasn’t so damn hot and humid in N.C. could lighten the water weight! Oh and the gear strap is amazing!!!

Mini stick for one sticking rides good. As far as backpack straps go, you can rig about anything on it. This particular one has some North Face straps from a backpack I cannibalized last year. With some open ended quick release buckles and 1” webbing you can create straps for lashing stuff down.
