It’s hard to tell from your picture, but I think your loops might be too big. I can barely squeeze a Sharpie in mine before I pull the tail through the loops to make the button.

Yes I watched some additional videos and figure out what I was doing wrong.
My first one I did a locked Brummell. Waiting on additional amsteel to do more. It is surprisingly solid on the tree for climbing and sets up quick.

I’m hoping I like it better than the OCB and strap.

I like it, but you do have to pay attention and step straight down.

For sure. I’ve already realized I’m going to need to keep closer to the tree with my LB.

Did you happen to try this with the treehopper steps? Was wondering if they had a better bite to the tree.

I don’t have the Treehopper steps, but I’m sure they would be at least as good (probably better).

Video to show these in action. Also put up a video showing the option that works with EWO squirrel steps.

@mtsrunner, I'm intrigued with your loop alien tutorial video. 2 q's if you don't mind: 1) Do you adjust the loop alien on the rope depending on the size/diameter of the tree you intend to climb so you have a more ideal position from which to create the "truckers hitch"? I can't get my head around a fixed position of the loop alien for different diameter trees. 2) In the video, I had a hard time seeing how you connected the loop alien. Any possibility you could provide more details? Appreciate it.

Yes, I do adjust the lock off based on the diameter of tree. It’s easy to do, but even easier if done before you start climbing.

Been working on my amsteel chains for ameristeps.

I’m finishing my ends like this. Two spliced loops locked and buried. I like that it makes a bigger knot. Overhand knot the two loops then pull the opposite end through. Got five so far and it works really well on the tree. Haven’t done a full climb yet.

I wonder if adding a couple of knots on each side of a squirrel step would help it from flipping over with the button method.
