The “Button Runner”. A 0.8 oz silent step attachment. **EDIT** read warning

Love the videos bro! Thank you. Seems like you could make the button runner work for a Squirrel Step also, correct?

Seems like a great way to attach a Predator or sticks too.

Video to show these in action. Also put up a video showing the option that works with EWO squirrel steps.

Sometimes yes, but the squirrel steps are a little pickier about how tight the strap needs to be. I’ve had the squirrel steps flip over using the button runner when it wasn’t tight enough. The Loop Alien version gets them tight.

It says on loopalien's website that the rca's are not load bearing and are not designed for human weight. I like the idea though.

Yes, I should have pointed that out. The way I climb with these, I am tethered the whole time and there is basically no slack in my tether.
I would not recommend this if you aren’t tethered the whole time.

Having said that, I also have some behind the scenes knowledge of Loop Alien and some of the testing and development. The latest version of the Titanium XL RCA is thinner. I have the previous thicker versions. I am confident that I couldn’t break one if I tried.

I am going to put a disclaimer in my original post. Thanks again for pointing this out.

I have edited my original post. Please see warning.

I would consider trying them if it wouldn't cost $190 for 11 of the titanium xl's. Even if you used the aluminum xl it would still be $100. That's not counting amsteel either. I may still try the regular button idea with a couple of steps just to see how they work. I've been wanting to make a few daisy chains anyway.

Instead of a daisy chain, why not do this button attachment with a whoopie sling that you can pull fully tight?

Give it a shot. I have found that whoopie slings are difficult to release once tightened against the tree in my experience.

Yeah, I just really like to experiment with this stuff. I timed myself today and it still took me 15 minutes to get to 20’ with the button runner. That might be a deal breaker for me.

I hear you, and the ideas are awesome. A deal breaker as in you don't think that will work for you? I take about that much time for my SS's now and it may not be as fast as I would like, but I don't think I could go back to sticks after seeing how packable steps are. Maybe a daisy chain with 1in or 1.5in spacings would allow you to get a couple notches tighter to the tree with the button method. I don't know if it would even make a difference but it might be worth a shot. They would be a pain to make though.

The button runner works just fine. I’m just not satisfied with the overall time requirement when I can get up the tree so much faster with and handclimber or SRT (if preset).
As far as making the notches tighter, it would probably be more finicky and not worth the effort.

whoopies are terrible :) might as well go with a cranford rope step if you're going to go with a whoopie

agree completely

First post, but I have been following the site for quite some time. I found these on Amazon and figured I would share since this looks to be a good option. 20200314_153143.jpg
