The first official Florida Saddle Hunter Meet up

I don't think it would grow without substantial irrigation....hard to grow anything in sand

I am sure that there are plenty of things that would grow just fine if a little effort was put in.

All I’m saying is that the FWC sure is good at writing tickets, limiting harvests, and collecting license fees but they seem to do little when it comes to improving WMAs for deer hunters. I just wish they did more.

@Weldabeast I actually reached out to a FWC biologist today for a WMA I hunt and he sent me a map of the area with all the burns they did this year color coded by month....so if you find the right person the info is there. Also, every prescribed burn must get an authorization from the Florida Forest Service. I'll include a link (http://fireinfo.fdacs.gov/fmis.dataviewer) that folks can check to see if there are any burns scheduled that day, or if you see smoke is a prescribed fire. I have a routine from roughly January through June to check the website every day for the 2 WMAs I hunt in the panhandle. I drop a color coded pin on my Spartan Forge and date it so I know as hunting fresh burns (less than a year old) is a major part of my schtick.

Here is a picture of one of my guys cooling off a fence on a burn I bossed last week....it was HOOOOTTTTTTTT!!!IMG_20220907_153204.jpg

My dad's got a buddy with 200acres and he went to Tallahassee and took the course to were he is "certified" to burn and I've been a part of a handful...I remember he had to call to get authorization to burn that day...I rode out couple times with intensions of working the burn but conditions weren't right so we just start drinking

I snagged a gun redraw for the closest wma to me

So now I have both gun hunts there

Pulled quite a few good ones out of there over the yrs, so hopefully between these 2 hunts I can get a good one knocked down

At chassahawiztka and homosassa they mark it on the big map at check station, all others I've been to, no such luck. Some of the burns are done by the division of forestry and can be seen on Facebook the day of the burn. A lot of the other burns especially on the coast are done by swift mud and they don't report sh**. My biggest problem with the burns is that they do it right in the middle of hunting season. I've literally been hog hunting with my wife at citrus wma and they started a control burn shooting
you hunt homosassa any if so is it any good? I live in inverness and hunt citrus with my wife.

I've only got to hunt homosassa for small game. Have never won that lottery...they only lottery 25 people for there. Small game at homosassa is open after the archery hunts and is a daily quota of 25 people at a time...but loaded with hogs, first come first serve, but usually never busy because chassahawiztka is still open for deer gun until end of December. I like citrus if you can get away from the jeeps and the hikers. My wife and I usually hunt archery for citrus , and the south end ...south of stage coach road for hogs during small game. This year I had to turn in my permits for citrus archery and gun due to a shoulder injury and has sidelined my hunting season. However best of luck to you and your wife this season!

yeah I found it a fun task to get away for the jeeps and hikers in citrus, I mainly let the wife do all the hunts out there so she gets a break from the kids Ill hunt it from time to time, she is on a roll deer every year for the last 3 years, but man the early morning drivers and right at dark do get nuts. wish they would post hunting is goin on, so many people ask what im doin out there in camo lol we deer hunt the middle never done the hog thing may try it this year out there. hopefully you will get back out there for the hogs maybe we will cross paths good luck when you get back out and heal up fast.

I can’t speak for everyone else, but it reminded me a lot of the phantom only that it was large enough to cover my butt. I already told Jerry it leaned like a dream. It’s also very well made. It worked out well when combined with Weldabeast’s special foot rest/platform
Coming to saddle hunting new this year I bought the Phantom and my only disappointment has been that it does not cover my behind and I feel like I have to choose (secured to my body or comfortable sit). I'll look ag at the Sidewinder.

The sidewinder is a very nice saddle and it has one of the best price points of any saddle on the market.

Since most of us are Florida hunters, I thought you guys might enjoy some content from the guys at swamp n stomp. They have a new video out where Danny takes a doe and I don’t want to be a spoiler but in the up coming weeks they take down multiple bucks in a single weekend on public land. If you guys haven’t subscribed or watched their stuff, go check them out
