The Hateful Eight team discussion thread

I was 54 yds from a 130" 10pt hunting from the ground. He got 44 yds from me before he spooked. He then came back multiple times at dark blowing non stop. I picked out a tree 80yds from his bed to put an arrow threw him next week aftrr he feels comfortable again.

Anyone else had a really slow start to the season? Only been able to get out a couple times. Schedule has been tough and the Brewers being in the postseason hasn’t helped. When I have gotten out though the woods have been silent except for some squirrels. Pre rut should be heating up here though over the next couple weeks and my schedule is loosening up.
I have had 10 sits so far. One smelled something when it got colder and the thermals switched, and annother I bumped leaving at night. No actual official sightings. Slow public land hunting this year. So far I have been walking in until I find the sign in and setting up on it. That is what is so great about the saddle is I didn't can be really mobile. I am hunting Barron County Wisconsin.

I’m in Sauk Co. Public has been slow here too but then again so has the farm. I finally saw one rub and a scrape this morning so hopefully it’ll be heating up soon. We usually have late buck sign where I hunt. Usually right before the bulk of pre rut activity gets going. They’ve all been ghosts though. I know there’s some big deer around because I saw them last year and the year before and am nearly positive they weren’t taken but all I’ve seen is evidence of deer. No actual bodies. Not even a roaming doe or fawn. It has me truly perplexed. Normally a bad sit is still seeing a deer or two by me.

#2 with the stick! I can’t show you the full saddle because it’s another Tethrd top-secret prototype! LOL

This was by far one of the most difficult shots I’ve ever had to make. Keep in mind my recurve is 62 inches long. This deer came in dead in front of me with the tree in between us. At about 7 yards he went to my right, my weak side. I managed to get my recurve over the top of my bridge rotate to my weak side and pull off near straight down shot! It was awesome! Ran 30 yards, done!

Well my season started great but I'm stinking it up the last couple weeks. Hit another buck last night. He walked out 5 minutes after I got up the tree and was still setting up so I hadn't ranged anything. I put him at 25 and he was at 30. Caught him low. He just ran 10 yards then stopped, then walked around like nothing happened. I knew I saw it hit him but I was doubting myself lol. The arrow had brisket fat on it and I was hoping it just excited through there.I had decent blood for the first 10 yards to a stop where he stopped for a minute. I marked that to start blood trailing this morning. An unexpected rain shower overnight screwed that up. The only blood left this morning was some in the 2 large spots where he stood. I grid searched for 2 hours but it was so thick he could have been 5 yards away in spots and I may have missed him. I was able to get a tracking dog to come and we tracked him for a mile until he hit private land. I'm pretty sure it wasn't a fatal hit. We went through tons of bedding area and he could have laid down or fallen over any time in there. That was a lot of ground to cover for a deer that wasn't spooked. I need a slam dunk shot to get myself back on the board.

Had a little six under me this weekend. Thought about tallying him up but I only get one buck per weapon in Wisconsin and the ruts just heating up.

Well guys I missed a monster

Miss but more of a catastrophic gear failure. He came from the direction I was looking and circled behind me to 17 yards. Turned around to draw, struggled, and when I pulled harder my knot slipped over my biner, shifted my weigh and and my finger tripped the trigger which shot at about a 45 degree angle. It would have been fine because he didn’t even run off but in the process I dropped my release (which scared him enough to run to 30 yards.)

So I looked at a deer that was probably pushing 240-250 live weight with a spread outside his ears. There was only 15 min of shooting light so I couldn’t exactly see what he had going on vertically but his inside spread was 20”+

This guy passed 15 yards from the tree I set up on 4 hours before I got there. Don’t know if it was him

Saw 4 last night. Had a shooter buck at 60 yards but he wasn't interested in any grunts or the can.

Anyone seeing any rutting activity yet?

Chasing observed in Central PA by another friend. Buck dogging doe in an open field last night at 6. I had my buck come into grunts and light rattling. Walked to a wick or buck pee and stopped when I went to shoot. This next week should be good.
