The Hunting Public guys recently published a new thing on their website - Deer School. as a newbie, any additional resources appeal to me, but wondering if anyone's checked it out yet? 80 dollars to access, not sure if it's a good resource, or just another way to separate people from their money?
from the website (https://www.thehuntingpublic.com/pages/thp-deer-school):
"What's included?
10 chapter course outlining every aspect of Whitetail Hunting
State specific summaries
In depth hunt breakdowns
Situational tactics for success on public land
Over 8.5 hours of exclusive THP videos
Written lessons in every section
Updated content every year"

Hard telling not knowing. They do know how to hunt deer though and have a lot ofinfo to share I am sure. You just have to see if you want to spend money on it.

In general, I think we spend too much too quick on things, and too little too infrequently on information. Cool thing about information is it doesn't take up room in the closet or have any real cost associated with it beyond the upfront purchase price.

If you're not confident in your skills, there are probably worse people to pay for knowledge. Probably not any more wasteful than this year's new sticks, clothes, or broadheads.

They don't know how to hunt Alabama or Mississippi deer, so my only suggestion would be to not take the course if you live and hunt in one of those two states. They really do have a lot of combined experience, so if you are a new deer hunter and don't have a lot of experience or a good mentor, it might be a good option to add to your ever growing boots on the ground. It sounds like they have more than enough material for you to read and learn from. I am sure you would take something from the course, and though I do hunt in Alabama and joke about that, I am sure I would learn plenty too. $80 seems reasonable. Let us know how it goes.

Get as scent free as possible.
Go out in the woods and find some good deer sign.
Find creek crossings, what they're feeding on and thick cover..
Shoot one...

^^^ Free
One of the places on the Tennessee River Delta that I hunt is like this:
Food everywhere. Thick cover everywhere. Deer sign everywhere. Creek, water, island crossing everywhere. What thin sliver of land or island will they be on today? No one knows! No clear rut for the whole duration of the hunting season. I am convinced you aren't patterning these bucks. Cameras all have them nocturnal (lots of pressure). Sure you can go out there and shoot a doe, spike and fork horn a day, but good luck figuring out what the nice bucks do. There isn't any of this preseason spotting for deer in fields, I have never seen one in a field in broad daylight. It's dang near luck to kill a decent one on this particular public land. YMMV and my views are subject to change once I finally become more successful.

i'm in Maryland, so a bit wary of the "tactics" being more towards western states, but i'll likely spring for it. agreed that there's no replacement for boots on the ground time, but i can do this while at work on breaks and such... also i'm in a similar spot where i have some areas where i've found trails all over the place, but need to figure out where they're going to/from, and when they get used. cameras could help, but i dont own any of those yet

Get a good flashlight/stabilizer, a lighted sight and spend LOTS of hours in a tree...

^^^ More free advice.

The fine for hunting after 10 PM might be more than $80?

:p

That’s like 4 violations before you even kill anything. We got enough outlaws down here as it is… now that I think of it, maybe that’s how they’re doing it! Lol

Personally I’d add that $80 toward an out of state tag , often can be had around $120. Or take $20 to buy a 6 pack for someone that helps point you in the right direction in state, if obligations don’t allow a week off to go hunt elsewhere. I’ve had some cool conversations with guys on here in follow up to classifieds sales, or threads “ let me know if you ever make it down to” type of chat.
Hunting out of state and other units has been very helpful in my growth as a hunter and I’m average ( I hope) at consistently seeing deer.
I’m starting to share the opinion with @Nutterbuster that the best money spent is driving to where you see deer in daylight , or something along those lines.
Those pricey sticks and bags don’t count until you see deer.

There is enough content in the YouTube archives that you could bite off small themes or tactics and apply it to where you hunt. Hunting Public, Beast , and Eberhart are great but you have to go out and grow or fail, and analyze why.

The hunting public hunt almost full time and you’d be pretty effective if you could swing that field time in multiple states.

its hard but set lower expectations, I struggle with that myself and I’m 43. I’m not sure online programs paint an honest picture of how much time goes into a sub 30 min hunt video

If it helps you kill a deer, isn't it worth it? I've spent 80 dollars on far less useful hunting items, more than once haha. I would wager that there will be something in the course that is of value to you, I don't think you'd be disappointed.

Now i will piss people off with saying this im sure but, im a fan and those guys.i really am but im disappointed in them
With that said they do know what they are doing and really lets be honest they have the time to put into it to be successful.
They hunt or scout every day in multiple states. Team of scouters. Sponsors with free equipment trail csmeras etc. i have no problem with that but few years ago all i heard was we want to teach people for free how to be more successful.
now with the demonitization of hunting channels looms thet are-making a pay to learn website class? Lmao.
save your money watch old videos from Wensel's, Andrae , or dan fitzgerald. All these guys learned and are regurgitating info they learned from them anyway. Great guys and proven killers but not worth it to me. But thats me. Might be worth the money for noobs.
just my 50 cents which im sure will ruffle someones skirt

1. If you try it and don’t like it, you can’t sell it in the Classifieds?

lol. I’m sure it’s fine if you’ve $80 to burn. No more necessary or less necessary than lots of hunting stuff.

I’ve learned from every hunting tactic and story book I’ve read.

I feel like they do some things differently that you don’t get from the other industry guys. At least from what I’ve seen.

I like the in person “workshops” best, wish I would have done the Benoit tracking school

Not a huge fan of online degrees, but they can be good programs if done well.

So, worth it if there is a diploma?

Why does somebody getting value for giving value disappoint you?

You'll get great info like big bucks are no smarter than a spotted fawn and hear multiple times how I need to "come to the light". For $15 you can sometimes find a Madrock Safeguard for $200. :)

For some, it may shorten the learning curve and be worth it. They know what they’re doing and have the bone to prove it. In this day and age though, all of that stuff is online somewhere and for free. I used to frequent the hunting beast a lot and I learned a lot from that place. It got really weird and political for a little so I stepped away. Political between people and companies mostly… but some real politics too. I logged in for the first time a month ago and it seemed better, but that was just from my brief over view. Don’t hesitate to get on there though and soak up whatever you can.
