The Official Ground Hunting Thread

Hey just seen this for the ground hunters looks interesting.
How the heck do you move around in there with a broadhead? I’d have that thing all slashed to bits in no time. And what happens if a deer comes along in a place where you don’t have a shooting window?

I think I’m gonna stick to sitting still.

Looks like you can 'silently' spin the contraption into position.
Slowly. And with strategic timing, of course.

That said. I'm not interested. But it does make me think what I can do with paracord and camo netting/mesh.

Same Here. I Really Can't Handle Being Inside a Blind Where You Cannot See Around You. All of a Sudden The Deer is, THERE ! in Front of You. Fred Bear Said the Best Camo is Sit Still and Be Quiet! It Works!

So a big mature buck slips in on you, he’s suddenly at 20 yards broadside…

Yeah, I’m gonna silently spin a camo colored porta potty so the shot window lines up with the deer.

Seems antithetical to the purpose of a blind.

Obviously, that's not the scenario in which you would move a muscle.

Again. I'm not interested in anything like that thing. Probably for the same reasons you aren't are. ( I think 'are' is correct in this sentence )

What kind of spices do you put on your Little Debbie treats?

Yeah, I feel carry 2-3 walking sticks, paracord, and a roll of camo mesh/netting/fabric can make a good portable ground blind.

I don't have one or plan on buying one. But I hunt at times with a preachers seat hung on a treelimb while wearing a ghillie kill suit. Same principle and I can easily spin slowly to take the shot. I have been doing this for years and have killed many deer some at only a few yards. I just thought it looked interesting.

What is the seat with the green paracord web? Looks easy to pack.

If I'm ground hunting I always have am inner tube along for a seat. Put on anything including just the ground for a lightweight dry seat.
If I'm feeling fancy I bring my 1x6 and a we stepp and lean against a tree.

What size/diameter tube is that?
Probably 8".

Back in the late '90's or early 2000's, Walmart sold those with a camo covering for $20. I think I bought 10 of those and gave them to friends and I still have a couple left. I don't fill it as full of air as what is shown in his picture. Just enough to keep my tailbone off the ground. Reduces squeaking as well.

Custom Gear Modifications will recreate this cover when I need one. GREAT people over there.

Here's a pic of the above mentioned inner tube cover Walmart sold way back when.

It has a black nylon strap handle on one side and a zipper - for tube replacement - on the other. I've had these thins for all these years and the zippers or handles have never worn or been damaged. Every once in a while I get careless and set them over a thorn or something. No big deal as 8" wheelbarrow tubes are cheap and readily available.

ETA: Pay no attention to the black strap w/ buckles on the ends. I added that so the 'doughnut' can snap onto one of my turkey vests. The magnet on the 'handle was for an Ol' Tom vest that I no longer use. I replaced the magnet with another buckle for a vest my son uses.

Mine are inflated no more than I can do with my own lungs. Any more and you get fatigue.
I think that is a 13". For some reason the 13's I've bought lately are smaller than the original from many years ago. Just bought more so I don't have to move them around.
I brought an 18" to Montana for 10 day elk hunt. I was a little worried about not using a chair for 10 days but worked great.

I've been using inner tube for many years now.
Have a .5 in the mail. Guarantee I never sit on their cushion Seat. Will be using an inner tube.

How does one sit on these inner tubes? Are thighs and cheeks on the tube? Or do you position so that your sit bones are inside the hole area (suspended)? Asking because my sit bones hurt after sitting for a long time.
