"The official saddle hunting backpack thread"

Appreciate it. I thought I saw a post on here once of a guy running them vertically somehow. I could of swore he had them run into the side pockets and then used the molle loops to secure at the top... I tried that though, and thought I was going to rip the pockets trying to get them in.
You trying to get the standoffs in there? I’d just try the steps and gear tie to the baby molle up top. Not sure how high that would leave you up too.
Are there grommets in the bottom of the side bottle holders? Might utilize those to secure bottom of the stick.

I can’t remember. Is it possible to use the beaver tail compression strap to hold sticks to the side?

Hi all just recently got the Eberlestock H31 Bandit, anyone else running this and have a better idea for stick attachment?

Bungee those bad boys on top your platform!

I think I can get the beaver tail around the top of the sticks, so it's just finding a way to secure them at the bottom as well. I'll look into seeing if the water bottle slots can be used, appreciate the ideas!

I’m using an Eberlestock J34 (Just One). My wife bought it for me years ago and I’ve never really found a good use for it as far as hunting deer in Georgia. The other day I had an idea and now I’m in love with it.
The biggest problem hunting down south, as I’m sure some of you are aware, is our temperature swings. For me, it requires that I carry layers in in the evening and have a way to carry them out in the evening. The J34 is expandable (this is not a pack review, a quick google will tell you far more than I can) and it covers this need nicely.
My biggest problem has always been the hip belt on a pack interfering with my saddle/battle belt. Here comes my idea, and if this is old news I apologize, but I don’t think I’ve seen it before.
I threaded some climbing rope through the waist belt of the pack, so now my pack belt is my lineman’s belt. Now I just walk up the the tree and get to climbing. The pack belt has Molle for my tether/lineman’s SYS hauler, my dump pouch for my ROS and my pouch for my bolts and drill. The pack easily accommodates my sticks (helium mini’s or API’s) and anything else’s one might need to carry, plus it can pack out meat.
I’m quite fond of it and it works very well for me. I’ve attached a few pictures. It was a simple thing since the waist belt has tunnels, but something similar could be done with any Molle/pals waist belt by securing the rope with paracord, etc. The main idea is that the rope goes all the way around, so the belt is just for positioning.
Here are some pics for illustrative purposes.

I’m not saying this for certain as I’m not familiar with that pack, but I wouldn’t be trusting my life on a waste belt/molle stitching of a pack. You’re an adult who I’m sure is capable of making decisions so good luck to you.

The rope goes all the way around me. Through the belt and pack. So I’m relying on the rope. Not the belt, if that makes sense.

But aren't you clipping into the waist belt of the pack? I'm assuming through a loop built onto the pack? If that gives, the rope wouldn't matter. Again, assumptions being made, so could definitely be incorrect.

I was looking at the tool bucket or fanatic pack. Can't make a decision!

That Fanatic Pack is not going to make you happy. It’s strictly a “pre-set stand” pack. It’s flimsy and does not hold its integrity when you start loading it down. It’s good for looks, to throw a vest and a banana in and some toilet paper and head to the tree. That’s it.

Are you talking about the specific pack you are trying to run with or was it a different pack?

No, the rope just runs through everything and I’m clipping back into it. Same concept as The battle belt lineman’s belt, just without the webbing.
Picture taking a battle belt and threading the rope all the way through it, with an overhand on a bight on one end.
I’ll take some better pictures to illustrate this evening.

I could definitely see what you're talking about. I am using bolts and bolt presets a vast majority of the time and don't plan on packing and animal out with it. I've read a lot of good reviews on it.

Anyone using a lumbar pack? Something like a monster fanny, Tenzing 1250, or a cabelas transporter?

I’ve tried all those but the transporter. They were too strappy and didn’t fit well on me.

is this the transporter that you were referring to?
I used it the early part of the season here until it started getting chilly, then I went back to my cabelas treestand 1800, this last week.

I put those crappy straps that came with the mission platform on and I can throw the mission on over the bag without all the excessive bulk behind me, which is helpful when I carry it all up my sticks. I only use a rope to haul my bow.

I wish it has some useful molle webbing though and no where really to hang my sticks from but really haven’t tried to mount them to it either.

I have an Eberlestock tailhook that’s probably my favorite lumbar pack of the ones I’ve tried for taking up the tree.

That's the one! would you recommend it over a badlands or tenzing?

I’ve never used either of them so I’m not sure.
My wife works at cabelas so I get a discount, so basically it was a price I couldn’t refuse compared to the “better” brands. I’m happy with the quality and how it feels for the most part, but can’t compare to a high quality bag sorry.
It for the most part rides above my saddle and pouches and that was biggest concern when I bought it, possibly on the heavier side but I loaded it with a bunch of items I don’t end up using out there and can’t say it feels heavy or out of balance.

Pros - decent amount of pockets, fairly adjustable strap wise, fairly cheap price, decent quality, there’s a spot to mount a holster for my pistol

Cons - vertical molle webbing instead of horizontal like most bags, not many attachment points to hang things from (maybe a pro?)
