"The official saddle hunting backpack thread"

I went cheap amazon pack, but fits my platform perfectly. Platform & fleece saddle inside, bow hanger top pocket, knee pads bottom pocket, extra clothing bottom strapping, sticks in Talons.

Are those talons attached to your molle? Or through pack? Nice setup

Mine are attached to my pack. I should have some universal pack Talons available in a couple of months. Still testing at the moment.

slightly off topic, Cbigbear, what did you do to make your sticks like that? cut down Lw, added a DanO double step on top with a tighten-able Knob so you can rotate the top steps? how do you like them? just got a set of Beast sticks, but not sure I like how they pack with the double steps sticking out sideways. going to try them out this afternoon.

Yep LW cut to 23”, double step top steps only, & longer bolts with 1/4 20 knob to make them swivel. I also run 7/64 daisy chain & movable aider. Love these sticks for my saddle setup. They fit perfectly on my pack. I couldn’t deal with the fixed double step width. It looks like you could setup your beast sticks the same way as far as turning the steps.

Just got the stone glacier x curve frame to attach my avail 2200 to. I am going to run my sticks and ridge runner in the load hauler. I will probably make a bag out of x-pac to keep them quiet. I have a couple ideas.

After trying a few packs out i believe this is what i will be running next season. Mystery Ranch treehouse. Predator platform fits perfectly in front pocket, 4 beast sticks strapped to front, fanatic bibs under sticks when needed, fanatic jacket inside the pack with all my other gear, doyles gear hoist in right side water bottle pocket.

My Silent Reaper for all the fans out there. Still working out how or if I want to add external storage.
Packed with rappel rope, foam pad, pouch with squirrel steps, kill kit and a leafy asat jacket

Added an eberlestock external pouch for easy access in the tree.

Pouch open for access. The pack has two mesh zipper pockets behind it which are still accessible. The new one pictured keeps me from digging around in those mesh ones and prying items out.

Too bad badlands don’t still make that pack. Least from what I could tell they don’t make it still

They discontinued the silent series for some reason. In the hype videos they claimed they came up with this awesome silent material, but then made two packs and killed them shortly thereafter.

If I had to guess it was probably a warranty liability, where they ran into issues repairing damages..... pure speculation on my end. I’m not in love with their craftsmanship when it comes to warranty work (never as precise as the original build) in my experience with them......

Just wondering if the X2 is a soft pack or if it has an integral frame? How does it distribute a heavy load? I’ve got a cheapo but good sized daypack that MOSTLY fits the bill but it kills my shoulders after awhile. All the weight is right there on my traps and my arms start going numb after awhile. Have seen a lot of great posts about how much the X2 can hold, just wondering about distribution, comfort, etc. Thanks!

I'm 6' tall with a long torso and my father is 6'3". The X2 frame is too short for both of us. We couldn't get the pack weight on our waist, the pack started hurting our shoulders pretty quickly.

With that said I loved the design of the pack and lots of people shorter then me says it carries well for them.

Thanks very much, great intel, I’m 6’3” myself, also with a long torso. Darn it, the search for a killer pack is back on!

Mystery Ranch Treehouse is the same way for me at 5' 9" and a torso measurement (following MR measurement instructions) of ~18.5".

They moved the load lifter attachment points lower than they have them on a similar sized pack (like the Scree) making the load lifters almost entirely useless. This appears to have been done to avoid interference with the flip open lid. The pack is made for low weights and short distances.

Anyone use the Mystery Ranch Sawtooth 45?

It's a big pack for saddle hunting, but I like the 270 degree zipper access and interior organization pockets. I use SRT as my climbing method, so opening the bag like a duffel on the ground to access my throw line and rope would be awesome. Down side I see with that is scent control and zipper noise.
