The PLVOD (Public Land Van Of Death) Build Thread

Critical overlook! Where the hell am I gonna put deer?
Gonna make this swing away arm and basket this week. Already added the hitch receiver this weekend.

Any suggestion on this design?

Heck go all in and make a folding arm where you can hoist the deer up and skin him out
Cut him up and bag him for the ride home. Put a ice chest in a cargo rack
Something like this but swivel and folds flat by the back bumper and the cargo rack would go in it and I would make it fold up when not in use also

See you in a tree, Ricky

So, I actually plan something along these lines. I will use the back hatch, opened up with a support rod to hold it open, then use my pocket hoist mounted to the locking mechanism.

Now that most of the seasons around are closed, how did the PLVOD do? What did you like? What did you not like? What are you gonna change for the future? How did the pocket hoist do with the deer?

Well, I didnt get to use it as much as I would have liked. It did great when I did!

Love the rear power system. The marine battery on the isolator set up worked perfectly. Never went without power.

The water system ended up being a great way to rinse deer off after cleaning.

Very comfortable to sleep in, and the cook station is handy.

The window shades are a little cumbersome to put up and take down. Might need to rethink that one.

Never even got to use the hoist, but I guess its one of those things that you will be glad you have when needed.

Overall, its a pretty awesome little set up to have. I think we will really put it to use during turkey season when we go out of state.

Look up Mitsubishi delicas! There awesome, I lived in Japan for 6 years and they’re everywhere over there. I almost brought one back with me but snagged a right side drive land cruiser up instead. I’m sure a few delica’s made it to the states by now.

Those delicas are awesome. I wanted to get one while I was stationed in Oki.

The PLVOD did not get as much use as I had hoped. Work limited me mostly to staying around local. We did get a couple of night in her before it got to cold. So far, I like everything that was done. The power set up is great and surprisingly long lasting. Both the cot and hammock are comfy.

Really need to get a 3 day or longer stay in the van to really figure out what works and doesn't.
