The things we find in the woods...

I have an oak and a sweet gum growing like that in my yard. Took me a year to realize they were different trees.
went coyote hunting with a cousin of mine one time on my dads farm and we had some trees in that same setup. We sat down by a pine tree and after an hour or so my cousin said ya know I've been thinking on it since we sat down but I never seen sweet gum limbs growing out of a pine tree lol. I had him walk around to the backside of the tree so he could see the sweet gum

I been seeing threads about hunters leaving stands and etc in the woods and whether if it's legal or not. I thought I would start one to just post pics or talk about things we have found in the woods, whether if its illegal or not. It could be a deer, critter, or anything that made you snap a photo of it. Today was a first for me though, and the reason I wanted to start this thread(last pics).....

Mind dropping me the coordinates of them there potted plants? I just realized I'm missing a couple houseplants...

Aw man, finding those grow pots (no pun intended) is crazy. Be careful, I've heard that they are sometimes heavily protected...

Yup, my brother took a load of buckshot to the leg from a booby trap protecting some guys plants. One of his legs is about 1/2" shorter than the other now...

Now he may very well have been trying to steal them but that's beside the point...

I think the one that always makes me scratch my head is the old 1950s fridge in the woods. Nearest road is 2 miles north. It's up high enough that it couldn't have floated down the river. No other signs of habitation or junk piles. How? Why? What for?

I stumble across a lot of shell middens. Those are always cool. Technically counts as trash, right?

Pics or it didn’t happen.....

(But I would go with hurricane or tornado)

Yessir, I happened upon a booby trap one time as well. Tripped over a really thick line and heard an audible, unmistakable "click!"

Damn! At least it was just a click!!!

Dude, it had me freaked for a while about backcountry stuff. But then with a little help from my hunting buddies I just convinced myself it was someone playing "naked and afraid" or "Alone" ... helps me sleep better at night. LOL

deer leg 2.jpg

That is the entire back half of a deer about 20' up in a tree. The other leg is on the other side of the tree. My son happened to notice it while sitting in his saddle and snapped this picture. We checked it out closer after the hunt but didn't think to take anymore pics.

And that 2x4 stand... man... crazy.

Highly doubt 2 crappy male plants are being heavily guarded. looks like a "high" schooler's first try at it. If it was a whole field of dreams... yea maybe. usually growers are pretty mellow (Hi, how ya doin? im peejay! i like hunting too!), with the exception of those murder mountain idiots out in Cali. Would be fun to set up near it in a ghillie suit or in a tree stand and start playing deliverance theme or police chatter haha.

Outdoor grows, especially in a spot like that where they dont get the attention they really need, tend to not amount to be very good plants..... I've heard

You have cats around you?

We have bobcats but I think that "officially" the eastern mountain lion is considered extinct.

20 years ago I personally saw what I am positive was a mountain lion, it was 20 yards from me, in northern Garrett County and I know of one other dependable sighting by two individuals probably ten years before that in the southern part of the County. Cat's from the west have been known to travel long distances looking for mates so who knows if they lived here or were passing through.

It had to be one BIG bobcat to drag the two rear legs of a deer 20' up into a tree, although I guess he could have taken them up individually.

They may be declared extinct, i guess i dont know that much other than they are not common. They do pop up occasionally on game cameras and stuff.
There was a mountain lion spotted on camera about 20 miles from me last year, those things are beasts. I live in MN, so then being in my part of the state is weird
