Does a thermacell cancel out a scent free efforts? It smells strong to me, does it bother deer?

Get the earth scent refill pads, they don't smell as bad. I've used them successfully on bear hunts. Will be using them in early season this year. I think it's the best way to get rid of bugs.

Here’s my take on it…if a deer smells it then it smells you also. However for the sake of the OP’s question if you were absolutely 100% scent free IMO no deer in history has ever been killed by a thermacell. Since a thermacell has never killed a deer they have not associated danger with that smell. If they haven’t associated danger with the scent a thermacell puts off then they will not be alarmed by it. Will they be aware of the smell? Certainly. Will they run of because it’s a foreign smell to them? I think it’s individually dependent on the deer and how skittish it is...

Could not hunt early season without having one in NC! Some of our " skeeters " will tote you off if you are not careful!

I run one and absolutely love it. Ive had deer downwind of it. I figure a deer has to be downwind to smell it but deer can see me swatting, fanning, and choking on mosquitoes from any direction.

In south Louisiana you could die from blood loss without one. Before them on mid season hunts I would kill a handful just off my hands trying not to move.

Here is a helpful tip. After you lite your thermo cell, get some green leaves off of the tree your hunting in or nearby. Place on top of the grate of the thermocell (not inside were the pad is). It will help mask any odor and smell like whatever tree your in. We have lots of pines, so I get green pine needles. It gives off of a pine aroma

Yessir.

I was turkey hunting on the coast many moons ago and got the there just in time to roost birds the day before the opener. I was hunting a river bottom along the Savannah. I was in a rush and took off without my thermacell......friggin awful. Got back to the truck with 2 birds roosted and strapped the thermacell to my gun, lol.

The next morning I fired it up and went in. When it finally got light enough to see there was a WALL of mosquitos about 12-15’ out from me in all directions. I just sat there and smiled

Soon they will have pads that put off deer scent or a device like a vaporizer with acorn flavor and other scents common with deer hunting. With hunting catching on with urban hipsters, I cant wait to hear about the first citysouthern that mistakes this said device with his vaporizer and takes a big o hit of tarsal gland.

I don't think they mind as long as you don't shoot at one, miss then they associate that with danger or something similar. @Aeds151 I'm no hipster but I've already been using the thermacell pads with a couple drops of cedar oil and in the rut I've toyed with the idea of using the "used" thermacell pads as a heater to put my favorite doe in heat scent on them.
