Thinking about getting a "New to me" bow

I have never shot one but for some reason or another i dont like the thought of the doubled cams

The Primes don't really have "double" cams. In reality it's just a single cam with two string tracks on it, and a unique yoke splitter that ties them together into the single string. They call it a "parallel" cam. It might sound complex, but I think it's actually much more simple than a single cam with a y-yoke. The parallel string tracks pretty much eliminate all cam lean, which I have always struggle with while trying to fine tune other bows. Zero cam lean keeps the string always firing right down the riser center in a nice straight line, and this makes tuning so much easier! All 3 Primes I have owned and setup were firing absolutely perfect bare shaft bullet holes through paper in literally minutes after starting the tune, with nothing more than a minor twist or two on the cables to set the cam timing (so the draw stops are hitting at the same time), and some micro rest adjustments. That's it. No yoke manipulation to lean the cam in an attempt to tune out horizontal tears, which can turn into a frustrating and seemingly endless process. At least that's my experience... I LOVE the Prime cams, and how easy these bows are to tune, and how rock solid they perform. I've never been able to get such perfect arrow flight out of any other bow I've owned (Hoyt's and PSE's). Primes are deadly accurate, quiet, super smooth to draw, and have the best valley and most solid back wall of any bow I've shot. I bet there aren't very many Prime owners that have switched to something else, other than upgrading to a newer Prime model. They're that good. Of course this is my own biased opinion, and I'm sure others will beg to differ. I don't work for Prime or have any affiliation with them. I do have a Prime Centergy for sale in the classifieds, but only because I prefer the shorter ATA length and lighter weight of the Prime Ion I'm currently shooting (I have two of these). I'm just saying, don't let the doubled cams scare you away from trying a Prime, because that is their best feature.

I appreciate it. You definitely will be making me look at these more. Any my take is you would suggest an Ion
Is there a better version out there i should look at?

Just jump onto ebay and grab a new old stock Kuma or something that's never been shot. You'll have a brand new bow with a 345 IBO for under $500. I think I got my Bear Arena 30 last year for $325. Just gotta look for deals, most individuals are asking too much, but the archery shops put a decent discount on them.

I like the Ion because I like short light bows. But to be honest, most guys prefer something a little longer, like in the 33" - 35" range because they find them more comfortable and forgiving to shoot. My favorite shooter was actually the Centergy Hybrid (35"). Prime makes several different models, and length is the main difference between them. But the Centergy did implement a new riser design and balance point. New models are expensive! I would recommend checking the used market for some of the older models including Ion, Rize, Rival, Centergy, Centergy Hybrid, etc. I would also look for "PCXL" cams or newer (including "TRK") as I think they were an improvement over the older "PCX" cams (better draw cycle, valley, and letoff). I believe anything 2015 and newer will have the better cams. Prime cams are also draw length specific, so be sure get the right one. They all offer a little bit of draw length adjustment by moving the draw stops, but not much. And letoff percentage changes as you adjust the stops. The TRK cams on the Centergy have a longer draw stop slot that has more adjustability. The 29" TRK-3 cams on my Centergy Hybrid can adjust up to 30-1/4", and probably down to around 27-3/4" (although I've never tried it). The brand new (expensive) models have even more adjustability (multiple inches).

Ok, sorry to derail this thread. Didn't mean to turn it into a Prime ad...

I actually had an old Jennings buckmaster g2 i bought brand new....was the best bow i ever shot. Just seemed to fit me perfect. Ended up selling it to buy a mathews and always regretted it.

As the title states. I am thinking of getting a new bow. More than likely a "new to me" bow.

I know there is alot of information already out there but looking for more up to date info.

I am thinking about a few and want to see what your thoughts or experiences are. I currently have a PSE Full Throttle. It is 65lbs, 28in draw. I like the bow but never really shot it as good as i wanted to. I am no pro shop and really dont have a good one around. It could just be a tuning thing. Idk. I could just be getting bored as well.

Cool short story. I bought thos bow from a guide brand new. Billy "Catfish" Parker gave him the bow for taking him gator hunting. When i got it, it still had Billy's name and address on it.

Anyways, back to topic. I am looking at the
APA King Cobra
APA Mamba 33 and 28
Bowtech SR6
Others if I find something in my search.

I really want speed, accuracy, and shootability.

Thanks in advance.

Hey bud I have a couple Elites that I can let u shoot

2010 Elite z28 68lb 28” super smooth

2018 Elite Impulse 31. 70lb 28” pretty smooth for being real fast

We have a couple excellent bow tuners but all require driving an 1hr for me.

Bought Impulse31 on eBay for a steal and then a great tuner in Bartow set it up for me

I have another guy in Pierson that also built strings for z28 & tuned it

To OP I also have a Mathews Z7 for sale in classifieds that is almost brand new. Just never liked it as much as my older DXT so it was basically a backup bow it’s whole life. It’s a 29/70 tho

So in actually pulled the trigger on an APA Mamba 33 mt. Got it brand new for 720 out the door with their drop away rest in kuiu green 2.0. That is over 50% off so couldn't pass it up. Figured if i dont like it i can just sell it and get my money back. I shot it a little today and it shoots really well. Nice and lite. Slightly louder than my Full Throttle but the new bow only has the rest and D loop. Hard to say which is faster. Ill post more as i shoot it more and get it set up.
