I decided to make the full switch to trad earlier this summer. It has been a ton of fun. A few lost arrows and some frustrations early on. I am sure when I have a deer come by that I could have taken with the compound I might be a touch frustrated as well. But I've shot VERY few past 20 anyways. If anyone is on the fence just take the leap. It's not as hard as it looks. And it is definitely more fun. Just shot this group from my yard stand, maybe 12 yards. They don't all look like that, but I'll take it. I need a live one about that size to do that now haha

I’m in the same boat after my archery sensei @Razorbak66 forced trad on me hahaha. But I agree with @will4554 completely, in the beginning I was super frustrated and pretty much hated it because I couldn’t shoot a lick but I just kept shooting every day and as you start to get the feel for it it is WAY more fun than compound shooting.

I’m actually trying to force myself to shoot the compound now because I only want to shoot trad but I need to continue to prepare my compound groups for season opening.

anyone who is thinking about it should give it a try but be prepared to be activated before you start to enjoy it!

I am the same....3 of the 4 deer I've taken with my compound have been under 20 yards, my first was at 12 yds! Will likely cause me to make the full trad switch next season. Good luck this year!

Good luck to you as well. I've killed 2 past 20 if I remember correctly. Both on food plots, and both could have been closer with some more experience. I've been in the tree/blind with lots of other folks shooting them as well, all close. If I can get proficient anyone can. I'd just recommend starting with lower poundage, it's makes the form part much easier.

Thanks man, Currently foolin' around with a 45# recurve....its a lot of fun but still a ways to go before i become proficient

I got bored in the late November 2017 season and decided to pick up a trad bow. My first time out with it I had a basket rack 5pt under me at 12yds. This wasn’t a deer I’d normally shoot with a compound but as Fred Eichler says, “Any deer with a Trad bow is a trophy.”

Well...12yds, I picked a spot, drew back, hit my anchor and let it fly. The arrow passed under his chest and between his front legs (he was quartering away) and he never flinched. He looked down at the arrow, turned his head and looked up at me as if to say, “Really dude?” and then he calmly walked away knowing he was in no danger whatsoever.

That’s when I realized there was more to this Trad game than I thought and I was immediately hooked.

It is fun and it is a challenge for sure.
