Thoughts on my setup

Would you agree that the safeguard is a better known commodity for the application? Not better just more users here & more feedback /best practices. Only pointing out what is the gain & making sure folks are thinking through their system…….

Yup, definitely more saddle hunters use the safeguard than the mammut.

And I agree 100% that users have to research and think through their system themselves, not take the word of some dude on the internet. And after thinking it through they should still test it out at ground level. And then possibly still even have redundancy. No one should decide how safe is safe except you.

That was my only point, the 1st pic posted could’ve worked fine most of the time….

I like the 2.0 but don’t go smaller than 9mm rope even though it’s rated for 8.7 I couldn’t get it to lock. You might have to try a few different carabiners depending on what rope you use. If you do buy one I would suggest getting it with the smarter clip. It helps hold the rope in place if you lift your break hand to high when repelling. Anyone with a leoadventures membership gets 40% off through Mammut. $35 new and in stock is hard to beat

Good info. Thanks

That's a black diamond atc pilot I believe not the 2.0 . They are very similar and I'd like to know if anyone has had experience with both? Which is better? Using a 9mm rope and was going to try them out.
Yes it is an ATC Big Air Pilot.

I see where the prusik above the bridge would keep me from feeding slack when rotating left. The reason I went the way that I did was to keep from having to change over to rap down the tree. To be honest it doesn’t slip much at all when I rotate and I trust it enough that the the “pucker factor” isn’t a thing anymore. Lol

When and IF the safeguard comes back in stock anywhere I will be switching from this current setup. Now that I have several hours logged in my saddle and after doing tons of reading here on the forums, I believe that I have a routine figured out with my ATC. It’ll work for me for now. Thanks to all of you for your comments and suggestions.

That package is a good package. I have the same and it works well. FYI Mammut recommends an hms style biner with the smart device. Now generally I kinda yeah yeah whatever when I see that but in this case it’s accurate as the hms style bites the line better and puts more grabbing force on the line. Other type biners may not.

With your adjustable bridge knot being so close to your biner you may not have a lot of rotation that way
It also keeps me from feeding slack into the Belay device causing it to lower me slightly too. I am able to turn my upper torso far enough to get a shot directly behind me easily.

I like it. I also like the friction hitch below the mechanical. Some folks put it above, but IMHO, if the hitch is above the mechanical, it’s basically holding the entire load, with the mechanical as a backup. When it’s below the device, it like your hand holding the line and making the mechanical do the work.
I’m looking for a device to use with 8mm resctech….any ideas?
