This is a +/- 150 acre tract that I have been hunting since I was a kid. It was cut in 1995 and is still pretty thick in most places with somewhat open hardwood draws running through it. I wanted to post this picture and compare how you guys would suggest hunting it vs how I've always hunted it. I am new to saddle hunting and this will be my first year attempting it. I'm hoping that the mobility of the saddle will get me out of my old habits of sitting in the same places year after year and only lucking up on a buck every now and then. What are y'alls thoughts on this tract? The only access is the road coming in the NE corner. There are some very large AL bucks on this place and I need to figure out how to get better at getting on them.

Out if curiosity what is the prevailing wind in that area? Also are you looking to hunt early season? rut? late season? all of the above?

Prevailing wind is N-NW throughout most of the hunting season. I hunt it at all times of the season Oct-Early Feb but I try not to hunt it often. I try to stick to public and only hit my private spots on the really really good days to keep the pressure off.

As you can see, the neighbors have food plots and I don't. Early season has always consisted of sitting on white oaks for me here.

Blue is where I would expect buck beds to be, need to scout it though, red is more travel routes off the ridges, might see scrape/rub lines. Green circle is where it all intersects, but would be swirling winds, need to hunt a real calm morning.Kelly topo.PNGKelly topo.PNG

You need cameras for a place like that. All looks the similar. There will be some buck travel just have to find the sign one year and plan for it the next.
