THP "The Hunting Public" appreciation thread

Have you ever hunted northern Maine? No acorns, no ag, and a lot of it you can't see 20 ft in front of you much less walk through it. When you watch them hunting on public in states like Iowa, Kansas, Illinois etc. and they are seeing 20 to 30 deer a day and 2,3 or more big bucks a day that is just a fantasy in my state. I've been hunting for over 40 years in Maine and can count on one hand the amount of times I have seen 10 or more deer in a full day of hunting. It's not because I suck at hunting either. There has been several years that I have shot 4 or 5 deer in a season and I hunt almost exclusively with a bow. Also until about 10 or 12 years ago it was one and done in Maine regardless of weapon used. Some states are absolutely easier to be successful in or why else would they be top destinations for trophy deer.
No I haven't hunted in Maine yet but will eventually. I do spend a good amount of time hunting big woods with similar deer densities. Sorry my last post might have been a little condescending, I didn't mean for it to be. It lights a fire under me when people say "that would never work here". I've been hearing that from old timers who hunt the same areas as me for as long as I've been hunting. "You'll never kill a deer trying to sneak up on them like that with a bow". Then I did. "Oh but you'll never get a big one that way". Then I did. "Oh but you got lucky". Then I did it again, and again, and again. A couple of these guys actually hate me for it and have gone as far as accusing me of poaching because they can't fathom a "new" hunter who hunts from the ground killing big old bucks in places they've been hunting for decades and probably never killed one as big. They confuse their own inabilities with impossibilities. Ok... Sorry... Rant over.

Agreed!! Those guys would be above average hunters in any environment. Because they try to adjust tactics based on location, sometimes they get skunked which doesn’t make them poor hunters. I enjoy the content waaaay more than 5-10 years ago everyone shooting big deer out of box blinds.

The point I was trying to make was there is absolutely states that it is easier to kill big bucks consistently. Like nutter said, there ain't ever been a pope & young killed in his county so I assume if they ain't there you can't kill them. One other point that seems to be ignored is if you have all the time in the world to hunt and unlimited resources you have a much better chance of putting big bucks on the ground regardless of how great a hunter you may or may not be.

Wholeheartedly agree! I just can’t stand the come try that here ,my spot is so hard, they’re entitled response......... in general (not directed at you)

It's all good. Some people that are big buck killers with their certain method of hunting might strike out in other areas that are not conducive to those methods too. Some people also just born with natural big buck killin skills no matter where they go.

I feel like i learned a ton from watching THP. It is also pretty clear that some states hunt easier than others.
I love that they have different approaches and also that all of them are willing to adjust to the situation. I think they make some stated look easier because we dont see all the time spent hunting with nothing happening. It is not like they put out everything they film. When the public land challenge is on you see what happens every day.

I enjoy there videos. Watching there guys get it done in state after state using different strategies is really cool. Most of us have a whole season to hunt and will not take the chance they do.

What I enjoy more is guys who think there state is harder to hunt then others. I believe if there’s deer there THP would find them.

Agree. That's why I really like when they go some place new. I don't mind 3-5 videos covering what they have done, what didn't work, and what there doing next. The progress from day 1 to the day they knock one down is what I like. In Zachs video where he killed that guy In Ohio, he said the last few days they hadn't seen much action. I still would have liked a 5 minuet re cap of what they tried and didnt work. What wasent working is just as important as what does to me.

I’m not trying to take anything away from anyone that thinks there state is tough. I guarantee there is a local legend in every state on every WMA that kills big deer every year.
These guys are trying to get it done in a short time frame. They don’t care if they push a buck out and it’s messed up for the season they will move to another area. All these guys are out scouting and freely share information with each other. It helps. The are just good hunters plain and simple

I love the guys at THP they are really putting out good content and good information. I’ve learned a lot of simple stuff from them that have really seemed to help me out this year. But I’d love to see the guys come down to some pomeadow swamps in LA and hunt the pressured areas like the south has. I liked the video that come from Mississippi with the flooding areas happening while they were there but still isn’t like what I hunt. Overall I’d love to sit with them and just look over some public and some maps and just soak up some of the knowledge these guys have. I started as someone who never had a big desire to go hunt different areas until watching them or bits of public but I did this year and I’ve seen more animals and sign over half my season this year than I have in the last 8 years of hunting my home public ground.

Those who are struggling to knock them down...take note

Most accurate statement of this discussion imo.

Aaron's video with the Orange army was insane yesterday. Can't imagine why anyone would want to hunt in that sea of hunters. But they got it done. I think after someone shot at me once would be enough. Credit to them for sticking it out. They won the day with that buck. I found it interesting that deer saw those guys out there at 400yrds and didn't mind. I've never hunted an area like that. But found it interesting he just kept walking.

I love these guys but would love to see them come to public in a place like SE WI within an hours drive of Milwaukee.

They seem to get on a TON of good bucks so i’d like to see if they could do it in an area where the Buck density is extremely low with Mature Bucks being so few and far between you could run a camera for 6 months and see one or two between the hours of midnight and 3.

I really think that’s the average joes hunt to be honest.

These guys are my favorite Youtube channel nonetheless.

I look forward to EVERY video they post. It's pretty funny, that my family gives me crap about it!!
I've learned a few things from watching them. Zach's energy kills me, ah, to be young again. They are very
knowledgeable about deer habits and how they move. If you can look at a topo/satellite map and call it, that's amazing, to me.
Honestly, if I knew one of those guys read this, I'd be pumped!!! Just to tell them how much I appreciate their youtube videos.
My daughter (17 years old) and I look forward to the next video!!!

I love the content. But would like to see them more into the heavier pressured states. Come back to Michigan, or back in Mississippi. They struggled some in PA. Zach has been really working to be out of his comfort zone it seems. Hunting Ohio in December. Seems they don't have to work to hard to stick a good buck in Iowa or Missouri any more.
I really enjoyed them breaking down new areas to them and going through the process. Hope they focus on that more than just shooting goodens in Iowa and Missouri.

Watching them break down a new spot is by far my favorite part of watching their videos. It's kind of inspired me to go out and try some new spots around me and I've had some success doing it.

Looks like it's loaded with a platform most of the time ...and u never see any sticks attached to either.....I guess camera guy is the pack mule

I think it has a water bladder inside...To be honest I can’t remember the last time Zack was airborne?
