Thumb Release

i shared this in a message to the OP, but ill share this group here as well, for anyone else who may be looking down the road

and possibly even more to post a reply to classifieds but you can PM whomever started the thread with questions and offers. I know because I can see the classifieds but can't post to them. I just did some trades for the above scenario I went through on archerytalk.
I just signed up and you are correct. You have to wait 2 weeks and have 20 posts in a thread in order to even open a classifieds add. I have to say after being on this site for a little while now I feel kinda spoiled lol. The interface at archerytalk is terrible. Its over crowded and really hard to follow.

I've shot Carter insatiable 3 for many years Crisp on the shot and comfy in hand. Can rotate the thumb ball to whatever suits your comfort and can adjust the tension on the spring. Just remember don't punch the trigger per say. Set ya trigger heavy enough you can set your thumb on it snug and pull through letting pressure set it off. Almost in sense of a back tension

Is there a difference between something like the carter wise choice where the index finger seems really close to the jaws and something like the carter insatiable 3 where the jaws seem to stick out more?

I didn't realize that thumb releases needed to be held loose and relaxed, thanks for that info. I guess that's why the Nock 2 It is a two finger system then so it promotes less tension. My hands are by no means large so I guess a 3 finger would probably be best for me then.
There are a number of ways to shoot a thumb release, e.g., https://www.google.com/amp/s/rcrchery.wordpress.com/2016/08/02/thumb-release-execution-methods/amp/
I like an active shot with the button at the base of my thumb - a four finger Carter Chocolate Addiction is my preference. The adjustability helps with the button location & the 4-finger improves my anchor point consistency (I also have the 3-finger).

I wish I was a headlight on a north-bound train

Wow that's an in depth read, thanks for sharing that. With my wrist release I punch the trigger no matter what I do. I like the idea of just applying a small amount of pressure and just pulling through the shot

I just went through several releases trying to make the switch as well. Started with Carter Insatiable. Liked how it fit my hand but didn't like that the hook didn't auto close. Wouldn't have been much of a deal deer hunting but target shooting having to close it over and over was a deal breaker for me. Next bought Carter Chocolate. Didn't like how it fit my hand, not swept back like the Insatiable was and hated the external trigger bar. Next tried the Stan Shootoff. This was just a purchasing mistake as I didn't realize Stan sells different sizes and I happened to get a Medium which was just too small for my hand. At this point I also had a Hot Shot Vapor on order. Then I found a Stan Perfex (bought from this site). I truly believe this is the most adjustable release out there and finally my search was over. Luckily I was able to cancel the Hot Shot order without having to pay for another release and the rest were all traded or sold outright.

I guess I typed all of that as a long way of showing how the fit to your hand is probably the most important part besides the obvious of being a "good" trigger release.
How do you judge which size would be best if you can't find them locally? I don't have long fingers but my palm is wide and i usually have to wear XL gloves or even xxl in say work gloves. What is the size based on? Thanks.

You’re screwed. I can take some hand and release measurements if you think it might help but I only have one release I could measure

This is a Stan Perfex size L. I normally wear a large to XL glove but more because of long hangs not wide hands

Thanks for taking the time to do that! I appreciate it. I'll have to look around and see if anyone has one to try. Not ready to spend that much yet especially if I'm guessing.

Just a heads up if you go with the perfex, only the long neck version has the feature to leave the release clipper to your bow. I bought the normal version second hand thinking I could maybe upgrade it but sadly you can't. Other then that it's a great release.

Thanks for that. I shoot the Perfex and didn't know that
