Day 1 in the books. Not much movement tonight. Lots of rain...hard rain.

Anyone do any good tonight?

Hunted this morning. Oddly enough, I didn't see any deer, so maybe one of y'all can help me understand what went wrong...

Got to the property late after working past midnight last night, then clanked my sticks through my access trail that wasn't quite wide enough, then put tons of ground scent around my stand while laying everything out like a yard sale, then fumbled my way up the tree that I hadn't quite trimmed enough, then fidgeted with a new pack and knee pads that didn't quite fit. Finally got settled around 7am (sunrise was 6:15am), only to get rained on, then had the wind swirl 180* on me and blow straight into the bedding area intermittently for the rest of the morning. Not sure I would've bungled the whole thing worse when I was about 13 years old. :flushed:

Self-loathing aside, MAN was it great to be back in the woods! I knew there would be some kinks in the system, and I was glad to have the opportunity to identify problems and get tuned up for the next hunt. Hope to be back after 'em tomorrow morning or Sunday, weather-permitting and Lord-willing. I'd love to hear some good news from some of the other TN boys and gals out there!

Well, take eveything away that was operator error, and the wind still shifted, which is the end all on hot summer days in my opinion. So, chalk it up to a dress rehearsal and get back at it brother!

Do you have a river or creek on your property? Im starting to figure out that when the wind is light and shifting, being close to these cool TN rivers and creeks can be helful. The water draws thermals and can bee a big help. Still not 100% on that, but so far research is supporting it.

That's my attitude for sure. No sense in getting down about this hunt when I have the whole season in front of me!
Unfortunately, I'm hunting a little suburban property with no cool water nearby (only a pond and some drainage), so not enough temp difference to affect thermals. The flip side of that, though, is these deer smell people all the time, so a whiff of human scent here and there is not the end of the world. Just have to avoid giving em a heavy dose.

Seen a whopper near Desoto falls! Lol.
He was walking along the road chillin like he didn’t have a fear in the world.
Glad to hear some stories about your hunts.

See you in a tree, Ricky

Got out yesterday, the wind was good for the spot over some beans where I had a bachelor group showing up most mornings.
Either I got pegged on the way in or they just didn't show. Had one doe come in to about 80 then pop in the woods. Otherwise slow. Gonna hit it again tonight.

Heavy storms and the threat of more today has kept me out of the woods today. Refocused my efforts towards uprighting everything that was turned over last night. Planning on hitting it hard on day 3.
