Going to cabelas after work today to pick up traditional rest stuff. I didn’t like the plastic rest on this bow. I was plannning to get the bear skin and the little side plate like was previously on it. I was shooting great with it. Anything I am missing? Something else y’all recommend? I’m bugging @swampsnyper to figure out what he uses as I type this. He’s mentioning something like the fuzzy side of Velcro. Thanks.

You want some pieces of leather I can send you some. Might have some left over beaver from a grip

I’m no where near being proficient at setting up or tuning recurves but an old timer I know taught me to use those little stick on felt feet for furniture legs. You can start with a full size one and trim it down to get proper arrow flight (at least he was able to get proper arrow flight, I’m still learning)

Bear rest isn't bad(it's what's on most my bows). Velcro seems to get soggy in the rain in my experience. Natural stuff like learher/suede of some sort seems like the best to me. Never uses seal, but calf is good, seems to shed water somewhat naturally.

You may want to look at the thickness of the side plate you choose. I have used Velcro but it is thicker then Calf Hair, so it will put your arrow out farther from center. This will effect what spine arrow you choose.
I currently use the calf hair for that reason.

Truth be told....you only need this stuff on your rest to quiet it down while hunting. You can shoot your bow quietly without a rest and plate if you stealth strip your arrows :).

I’ve had cowhide and cordovan leather, beaver tail, rabbit skin, squirrel skin, feathers, velcro both the soft and rough sides, duct tape, electrical tape, calf hair, seal skin...they all worked. I use seal skin because it looks cool and it can’t hardly be found anymore unless you run into an old purse or coat in a thrift store.

Speaking of thrift stores I found this black leather purse with awesome quality leather. Bought it and took it home and cut it up before the wife saw it. Found out it was a $400 Coach purse. Good leather :)

Furniture pads, fuzzy Velcro, leather, seal skin. All work perfectly fine. If your shelf does not have a slight radius, stick a toothpick under the rest material on the shelf. It’ll give a bit of feather clearance.

Is the first pic of your bow? Flat shelf Bear? Use a Bear Weather rest or raised Turkey feather rest.

There are olympians that still use a Hoyt super rest which costs about $2.50 brand new - a Bear Weatherrest is a tougher version of this in my eyes.

I have bows with these on them but I cut the side plate flange and drilled a hole to accept a 5/16 stainless bolt through the berger hole to adjust centershot while using the bear rest. They simply work very well.
