I thought i would just get it ready!! Any one hunting yet?
Sorry to hear that! don't beat yourself up over it! Jason from tbwpcast was talking about this since he started wareing a camera on his head and playing it back how many deer dropped low at the shot. I practice for that shot a lot and it's easy to hit high. I was just shooting this morning i didn't hunt because i was feeling so bad my arm is staying numb and hurting even my legs are hurting. I shot after work yesterday and wasn't happy with my shooting got up and it was raining so I was practicing Off of my shed its on a hill so I can shoot down close. I was hitting hight on my deer target at 12y i have to really constantly remember to shoot lower.I am/was. And l failed. Doe was too close and my angle was too high damn it. I think l only got 1 lung completely pass through. Blood died after about a hundred yards deep into bedding. Lost it. Been trying to grid it for last 3 hrs. I'm so mad at myself. Should of taken the shot when she was 15 yards but was too focused trying to make a good shot and held too long. No blood at all at spot she was hit and blood trail was horrible too.

Be kind to yourself. Hitting a deer wrong and not finding it is one of the worst feelings in the world and yet its a part of hunting. I appreciate your honesty and encourage you (as I tell myself repeatedly about the 8 point last year I hit in the shoulder, I think) that nothing is wasted in nature. Either the deer is still alive and will recover or it will die and nature will take its course. It'll be OK.I am/was. And l failed. Doe was too close and my angle was too high damn it. In these drought conditions, I find that deer will be near isolated water sources. Also, oaks on the banks of isolated water will have the best chance of producing a crop when other trees can't.I've been out 4 times so far but haven't seen anything much moving at all mornings or evenings, except for a nice bachelor group on opening day that was out of range. The wind has been perfect and the sign is everywhere. Hoping it's just acorns drawing them away and the temps going back up to the low 90's again. We also went from the wettest spring and summer on record to a drought in just a month so that's not helping either.
The FB groups I belong to for the area are reporting similar experiences. Everyone is wondering where the deer went.
I've decided to just stay out of the woods for about 2 weeks. I love hunting but not sweating my butt off and not even getting a glimpse of anything it makes the whole experience deflating and defeating. I'll just focus on shooting my bow and working on my saddle set-up some more.
Yeah, there is a creek nearby down in the hollow but it's in the neighbors property. He has a few cameras down there and sees them often. In these drought conditions, I find that deer will be near isolated water sources.
