Treehopper Recon sling

I'm a 32" waist and the buckle is pretty much as tight as it can get. I'd say if you use the bridge and a biner to tighten it up the rest of the way by clipping the bridge, giving it a few twist, then hooking it to a molly loop on the waist you'll probably get there. I wouldn;t be afraid to give it a try though. Shoot Mark an email and let him know your concerns, I"m guessing he will tell you to just send it back, no questions asked if you cant tighten it to your likeing...
My approach would be add a few more cheese burgers to your diet....

You might change your tune if you knew how it felt to take the fat off your waist and add it as muscle to your legs and arms. There's a reason climbers are lean.

I got my Recon sling in today. Initial impressions are mixed so far. This thing is great once I am set up in the tree. Extremely comfortable and adjustable for me. I love how I can use it as only a waist band with the sections together and then separate them to be used as a back and lower leg strap. It is very easy for me to find comfort.

My problem is walking in it and one-sticking. If I release the waist band and hang from the bridge to move my stick up the tree, the sling falls when I step on to the stick and stand up. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated as I start trying different things to make this work.

Understand I have a total of about 20 minutes playing with it so far. The comfort and available adjustments once in the tree are worth me giving this thing a thorough amount of time to get it to work for me.

You guys were not joking about the waist belt size either. I am about a 34-35 inch waist, and I can't get it tight. I can barely get it snug enough to stay up.

The treehopper steps also came in today. These things are great. I put an ocb strap through them and they are rock solid on the tree.

You need to do my bungee mod. It fixes any amount of sag during any phase of use.

I dont 1 stick, but i'd say there is no reason to release the waist when one sticking. I"d wiat till I got to the top, then loosen it. You can still just scoot the bottom section down to sit in.

Thank you sir. This didn't even occur to me. I went out and it worked perfectly for one sticking without loosening the belt.

I am going to do the bungee as you suggested as well, Allegheny Tom. I need something to hold it a little tighter while walking and in case I forget to tighten the waist belt before taking tension off of my tether.

I am loving how many different ways I can sit in and lean on this thing. It's extremely versatile. I'll be giving it a 4-5 hour sit tomorrow morning to see how I get along with it.

Thanks again gentlemen.

Great, glad it worked out for ya!

The other option to tighten it up a little for the walk is to leaver your tether biner on your bridge when walking in. pull the biner out in front of you and twist the bridge until your waist is nice and tight, then bring the biner to one side or the other of your hip and clip a molle loop.

Just my opinion, but I prefer the bottom section to come into the buckles from the outside, which is a 20 second fix than how Mark ships them ( the bottom comes into the buckles from the inside).
The reason I like my way better is for walking position. With the bottom coming into the buckles from the outside, the bottom can be pulled up over the top while walking. The way he ships them, them bottom won't lay over the top.
I think my way is slightly more comfortable, too.

Thanks for the tip. I'll give it a try both ways and see which way I like better. Playing with it now, I'm at a decent solution for tightness while walking. I like the position of the bridge buckles when in the tree, but they can touch around my waist and aren't tight enough when walking. I wrapped my linesman's belt around me once and tightened it up from those loops and this is working perfectly.

Are you guys using the leg straps on this sling? I use them on saddles, but I'm not seeing a reason for them on this sling.

Leg straps were too short for me. Should be an easy fix but not overly thrilled about their location either.

Took them off. I used them on every other saddle I've had, but don't see a need with th recon.

I flipped mine as soon as I got it (had already seen Tom's video) thing stays in place very well, while walking. I pull the bottom section up over the top, hike it up over my butt and pull the belt tight.

I would like to put a second shorter bridge on this sling for DRT, any ideas?

Here's an option for you if it meets your needs. I use my lineman's belt to take the pressure off of the adjustable bridge and shorten/lengthen it as needed to one-stick and rappel. The bridge buckles hold the bridge well, but I can easily loosen/tighten it if I have both hands free.

Do you have the amsteel or adjustable webbing bridge? Your answer is obvious if it's the webbing bridge so I'm guessing you have the amsteel version. Maybe try DIYing a utilibridge. Here's an easy video.

I have the webbing, I know i can adjust it but would rather have a second bridge.

Yup that's a good option, i run my tether through my biner via linesman as a back up when climbing, i just don't want to keep adjusting the bridge every time.
