First post, new to forum, and new to saddle hunting. This forum has been a huge help. Thanks to all who contribute and make it possible!

What side of a tree do you prefer to set up on? Leaning slightly away or towards you? With a severe lean, I would think you want to set up with the tree leaning away from you, but with only a slight lean I could see advantages to both sides.

Thanks, that was my initial approach because it’s easier setting up with it leaning slightly away vs towards...but after a couple of sits I noticed this seems to put a lot of pressure on your knees against tree if you sit or rest them against the tree for a little while (even with knee pads/cushion). Made we wonder if some prefer it leaning slightly towards so you aren’t pulled into the tree as much. Was thinking of a few trees I hunt that “y” at hunting height and you would have your pick.

The knee pressure might just be something I need to used to with hunting out of a saddle, or just lean more and sit less.

You want to set up with the tree leaning away from you. That way if you need to go around the tree for a shot the Tethr will help you get back your platform. Just a gravity thing.

Get yourself a good pair of knee pads. Yes resting your knees against a trunk of a tree for most guys is painful.

Also, if it's leaning towards you, it'll feel like you have far less room on whatever you're standing on because the tree gets in the way of your legs

I am climbing up a rope using SRT / RADS. With the tree leaning away, you tend to swing around to the other side when you climb. I climb on the side toward which the tree is leaning since this is the side you want to swing to anyway. With sticks, I climb up the other side since its more horizontal.

Being on the bottom of the lean will also make your abs sore after a long sit. Be careful though hunting a tree with lean you have to be much more methodical with your movements to keep from swinging too far or too fast.
