treestand accident

That is so sad. I'm so sorry brother. Praying right now for him and his family. A good warning to always be safe, it can happen in an instant. I still wonder how I survived my first 10 yrs of deer hunting in which I never used a harness.

My sincerest condolences to you, and that hunting brothers friends and family. I offer a prayer that he reap the fruits of a good life in the promise land. Brother may you find peace, may the suns warmth comfort you, and may the mornings rising thermals always find you down wind. Amen. To all, be mindful of your actions, be safe, and be grateful of the love in your life every day.

I'm sorry to hear this and appreciate the reminder.

If i may add to the safety reminder, I hunted with a guy who fell and died but he had replaced replaced the pins in his climbing stand with bolts and wingnuts which werent as strong. Saddle hunters as a group like to modify and experiment with their equipment but please make sure you never sacrifice strength for convenience.

again i am so sorry for your loss

Very sorry to here this. I have had more close calls putting up ladder stands solo than I ever had using a climber. I’m much wiser these days. Always think safety first.

Been there my friend. Praying now for the Lord to give the sweetest comfort and memories and that the sorrows will return joys and peace in due season.

That’s terrible

So sorry for your loss

Crazy how a ladder stand seems like the safest method to most hunters but most bad injuries and deaths that I have heard of seem to come from them

I’ve known guys that have been hurt, paralyzed and also killed by falling during stand set up, climbing up/down during hunt, & standing to shoot

As we age it seems to pull a person to a ladder stand because we don't want to give the advantage of height, when in fact you are right they may be a lot more of a problem for most. It could also be because there are more older people trusting them for safty instead of other methods. I know i'm going on 69 and I can't jump a fence or do a lot of that I use to do, so we try to adapt.

Prayers for his family.

Last year a friend was relocating a hang on stand. He always used two ratchet straps to be safe. He didn’t have his harness on, released strap one and strap two malfunctioned and he dropped 20’ onto his hip shoulder and head. Two fractured vertebrae, broken collar bone and broken pelvis. Thankfully he made a full recovery.

Always tie off with a safety line, even if you think that you are just moving a stand. Stay safe and be vigilant your family and friends will thank you.

Yep, I recall how awkward it was to put up/take down my ladder stand by myself, the whole time thinking to myself,"I thought they said ladder stands were safe". Fortunately for me, I had it set very low, it knocked me down, but I did not get hurt. (that was only because I was working from a very low height).

My hunting//scouting buddy's friend was removing a ladderstand this week when something went wrong, twisted and threw him into a tree. He died instantly, I'm posting this to say the danger is real and out there. He was a healthy, strong and fit person, so even if we think it can't happen to us it can.
Prayers sent

So sorry. I will pray for all involved. Being tethered in is a huge reason I switched to the saddle. I think I’m fairly intelligent person but I have a tendency to overlook the simplest things at times and that now scares me at 45!

It sounds like he may have been moving it himself. Ladder stands require three people to safely install and take down. Leaving them in the woods all year long is not a good practice either being constantly exposed to the elements. We think something steel can never fail. That's the biggest fallacy out there and we get lulled into a false sense of security. My thoughts and prayers are with this hunter and his family.

Sorry for your buddies loss. My son and I both started saddle hunting this year and I just told him Saturday that we are getting rid of all the ladder stands we have on the private ground we hunt, a couple years of going thru the elements and I don't trust them anymore.

I found a lean to/ ladder stand this past weekend. Appears it’s been set up on public land for a few years as vines had managed to grow all the way the side of the ladder. Gave it a climb and thankful nothing happen cuz after that climb and reading this, I could see how easily an accident like that could happen. Death trap just waiting to take a life being set up like that. I was half tempted to cut it down.
