While filling my feeder on private property last weekend something caught my eye off the trail (and I use that term loosely) as I was headed back to the truck. I first thought it was a dead bird but as I went through the brush to get a closer look I realized it was an open milkweed pod. Even more curious it was laying in the middle of a decent sized scrape that I’ve never seen before. I looked around the general area without getting to much more off the path and never located any milkweed or other pods. I’ve never even seen any around that area and I’m not even sure it grows south of Montgomery. Only reason I can think of that it ended up there was somebody dropped it either investigating or making that scrape. I mean could the whole pod have blown there? That seems unlikely given how thick the area was. Could an animal have left it there? I have 6 cameras that soak 3 months at a time for the last couple of years and have never seen another person. For now it’s a mystery.

Very interesting, I’d say you have a visitor. I’d be putting a camera on that scrape

It will remain a mystery but I have seen crows drop some really weird things through the years.

It’s actually sort of in the background of the camera that’s looking at the feeder but it’s too far away to trigger the motion sensor.

Very bottom of bama here. Found a milkweed plant the other day on public, had one pod on it already opened. First one I've ever seen.

No way that entire pod blew there. Pods don't fall off the plant. They are attached with a very tough stem.
And I've never seen any animal carry the stuff, either.
I'd say someone dropped it there.

May have solved the mystery. I found this attached to a vine about 10 feet from the other one. No idea what it is, but it floats good. It looks way better when it hasn’t been sitting open in the rain and all for a while.903D5981-29F5-4A6A-86C6-97C33117FE1F.jpeg
