Truck build

'41 Chevy Pickup sitting on an S-10 frame with a mildly built 350 (cam, headers, heads, bored). 4L60 that came with the 4.3 the S-10 had in it and I think it's got 3.73 limited slip but I'm on the lookout for an 8.8 out of an explorer or something. I might leave it one wheel peel until it's all together. I have a long ways to go and too many other projects.
8.8 out of a lincoln car will be ur width and have disk brakes and majority came with limited slip.... :)
 
I had a welded up 8.8 behind a built rat’ 460 and it held up better than the 9s (twist factory axle shafts)
 
There is a 28 spline version (ranger/bronco2) and a 31 spline (lincoln and some later model explorer)
The 31 spline is pretty stout
 
Off-road was my first real serious hobby/passion.I lost interest for a pretty good while. Having a dedicated offroader is fun cause u can beat on it and not worry about how ur getting home but I honestly only got to ride maybe 2 or 3 times a year. Building up a street legal 1 will let me go wheeling a bunch more and I'll clear up a ton of garage space making the wife happy.
I need to order a rear gear set and install kit and a 1350.pinion yoke....I already have pretty much all the components.
Front axle is 4.88 gear, arb air locker, 1350 yoke, high steer, and RCV axle shafts. I'll leave the rear stock minus the gear set and pinion yoke (currently 1330 u-joint) and weld the chunk for traction in the back. Warn 8274 for the front I'll spool with amsteel. Aftermarket saginaw steering pump to loose the crap bullnose ford power steering. I currently have some 37" bfg that will go on
 
Are u guys interested in me documenting my project I'm going to be starting on here in a little while? I'll be happy to let u guys follow along if there is anybody interested but won't bother if there isn't that many grease monkeys. Not exactly a hunting related thread but it will be my daily driver/hunting truck when it's finished.
Plus i think u guys would probably help keep me motivated and on track to finish sooner rather than later
I personally have a 1982 with the inline 6 and three on the tree. As an old Ford guy I will definitely tune in.

Between the two of us there is a 76 one ton bronco, 76 f150 half ton, 79 f350 one ton, 79 f150 2.5 ton, 84 f250 3/4 ton, 87 f250 3/4 ton, 92 f150 half ton, 99 super duty one ton, 02 super duty3/4 ton, 03 super duty 3/4 ton, and 03 super duty 1 ton......we got lots of fords....

I had a 1970 f100 long wheel base before before this one and a 1978 f150 with a 6” lift and some 38’s under it. It was totaled when a dump truck rear ended us at a red light. Saddest day of my life. That’s a great collection of trucks y’all got

Sounds like my old truck '90 S-10 blazer with a 350 and rebuilt 700R4, damn that thing was fun (one wheel peel and all). You all are making me want to spend money and bring that thing back to life
 
Ok, I’m in....I don’t have Ford nothing. I’m all toyota 4Runners here, 4 of them, but they are all stock. I still “like” to work on my own stuff though and can always pick something up from others.

Yoders are great. I'm not really brand loyal but I do know what I like and what works. Not sure the year and model but I saw a lexus suv with solid axles front and rear today.... I was eyeballing it big time.

The good thing about sticking with a brand is u learn all the quirks and fixes for said quirks......so I lay a little knowledge on any of u guys with 80-90s fords.......
The power steering is horrid in these trucks. Crap plastic pumps that loud whine.....this works for all the engines 300,302,351,460. Call around junkyard and find an E series van with the same engine u have and around the same year. Go pull the pump, bracket and any shims, and supply and return lines. The lines will be different than ur stock lines, the bracket will be different than stock also. The pumps that came in vans are the "can'o'ham" saginaw pumps. All metal construction and higher flow. Pretty much a bolt in swap. No more whining.and u can actually turn ur tires stopped on the pavement with ease
 
Nice those ole 300s are beastly
The big 6 has more seat of the pants power than small block v8 but the v8 feels faster. The 300 is probably the best engine ever made. 1965-1996 is a heck of a run. My truck is 145hp at 3400rpm and 265ftpds at 2000 rpm. Our airport has these plane tug trucks and they are all ford 300. Diesel power and quiet like a gas engine.

I get what you’re saying but my question is when I hang a right at light and it doesn’t scream how will anyone know it’s a Ford?
