Truck build

My neighbor bought a tractor from auction and needed a truck to go pick it up. He bought this truck from a man he knows from his church. That guy bought it new.. it's got low mileage and decent except the paint.I have a receipt from 1988 for the application of a marine grade paint from a local company.... So apparently the 1st owner payed to have it painted with a special paint and obviously it wasn't applied correctly or the paint just sucked. I paid 800 bucks to my neighbor and drive it from his driveway to mine. It had 2lifters stuck in thier bores. I pulled the head and had it rebuilt and I replaced all lifters and pushrods. It's got stock injectors but I've replaced the entire fuel system including fuel tank. The engine runs great...bit I have vacuum leaks so i need to replace all those and it'll be perfect. I'm replacing the stock factory alternator with a newer style and replacing the factory power steering pump so the 2 problematic things will be fixed and upgraded....

Marine paint is amazing for about 7 years lol then the sun weakens it to the point it tends to peel. It’s why most boat manufacturers now use pigmentation in their resins instead of painting boats.

Brake rebuild is product of the USA but the bearings are china in warn packaging. Interestingly, when I was ordering I was given a warning before purchase that the brake kit may or may not contain new keyways due to national shortage....the old 1s are still good and it did come with new keyways so no problem but I guess I need to hold on to all the extra 1s...I can't believe we, the general public, were not informed/aware of the great keyway shortage of 2021

Thanks...

I'm trying to use up all this stuff I've horded for years and clear out some room in the garage.....this truck will be all go and no show....function before form....I can make nicer stuff but again, I'm using what I got and trying to make the stuff easy and quick so nothing real fancy on this build....
I really would like a topper....I got my eye out for a used 1 that they don't want some astronomical amount of money for....

Here are my references for rebuild in case anybody has the same winch and feels frisky. That was my first 1 and it was very straightforward..... difficulty scale of 1-10 was 4. No special tools and real simple mechanics inside that are nearly impossible to mess up. The brake assembly ball bearings are the hardest part but I got it on the lucky # 3rd try....

#9,#22, and #44 were bad in mine...and the brake. i would have done the brake regardless, for safety sake

So...if u go to buy replacement solenoids warn discontinued these style and now they recommend an integrated solenoid that cost 200 bucks and u gotta rewire....screw that. I found these 300amp waterproof guys for 12 bucks each on the interwebs. I had to modify the mounting plate and 2 of the solenoids to get them on the mounting plate in the correct position to allow the cover to still fit.....

I prefer the solenoid on the side wall next to the ignition module. Integrated starter/solenoids are way too expensive and the solenoid is located on the starter down close to water, mud and debris. In my opinion that’s a bad combination. Did you try lmc or is this discontinuation across all outlets?
** after further reading, I am assuming this solenoid is for something else perhaps the winch that you’re rebuilding.. lol I have apparently missed a few updates. My apologies

Man....it's hard to find parts in stock right now. Ive been calling all kinds of peeps all over USA trying to find my ring and pinion/install kit. I think I may finally found some.....I paid them so I guess I wait on an email

I randomly bumped into an old wheeling buddy of mine at the grocery store a couple weeks ago...it's been like 15 years...went by to catch up and chat and see what kind of parts he had laying around. 1 of the things I still need to purchase is a co2 tank to run my front air locker....and what do u know...he's got a freshly inspected tank filled up and ready. I'll go pick that up soon and get the needed plumbing and regulator to run all the lines.

My dad purchased this 1985 custom deluxe new. I remember picking it up with him. I was 5 years old. Typical michigan car it was rusting pretty good after 10 years. He was slowly trying to restore it to an okay condition, but lost interest. Sat for a while. About 3 years ago one of my friends from High school bought it from him. He stopped by today. It's not perfect. But looks good. Screenshot_20210718-123745~2.png

My fist vehicle was an '86 Custom Deluxe K20. My cousin uses it as a farm truck now. Kinda wish I'd done better upkeep on it, it would take a fortune to bring it back to it's previous glory.

Needs some dents..... :)
It's always been funny to me how the south has the good frames/cabs and up north has all the good drivetrain components. Superdutys have made it so it's not so hard to find 1 ton drivetrain parts but before u were able to find them used at decent prices/available from the junk yard I would always have to buys 1 ton front axles from up north. Last used/pull out Dana 60 I bought I was able to purchase and pay the guy to deliver an axle from new York cheaper than to buy a 60 local

Haven't had much time for the truck lately....I did notice that I probably going to have some issues on the driver side spring u bolts so I made some u bolt delete leaf perches....no u bolts needed..four 5/8 bolts replace the 2 u bolts per side.
