Turkey Load

I know a couple serious turkey hunters that use a 410.

Yes Federal came out with a new load a couple of years ago in 9 shot that really packs those little shells with a bunch of heavy heavy shot. It is a growing way to harvest them. Mossberg came out with a new .410 Turkey gun just for this. I believe Henry has both lever and very nice single shot .410's as well.

Depends how much you want to spend and how far you want to shoot. Winchester LBs are just a phenomenal shell for the money, but would not take a shot at 60 yards, regardless of Winchester's marketing. Not exactly comparable, but throw a piece of 2x4 out at 60 and fire a lb at it. Most of the pellets barely stick in it if any do at all. Now take that same piece at the same distance and shoot it with TSS 9s and they penetrate deep. The best shell is for lead is lbs, best TSS are apex loads. I've used nitro for years but I much prefer apex. Easier to get, and a far superior crimp to the garbage nitro crimp. Buffer will leak out all over but apex that'll never happen. Federal TSS is the easiest to get but I found them to pattern the worst of the 3 loads by a pretty significant margin

This is a good watch to compare a few loads too. As stated in the video each gun shoots different.
Personally I’ve shot these over the years
2 3/4” 12ga Winchester XX’s #6s,
Remington 3” 4x6s,
Winchester 3” LB XRs #6s,
Heavyshot 3” #5,
and some Federal TSS in 12 ga and 410 3”.
All of them have worked great for me.

I definitely recommend patterning your gun to know where it hits and knowing the distance that the pattern carries.
Knowing that helps you have the confidence to take the shot. Next is being able to not get caught up in the moment and make that shot. Good luck and enjoy the hunt!
