Heading home from the grandfolks house and was able to snap a few pics of this guy with the big camera.

Hoping to see this guy in a couple weeks. The bird, not the deer.

Screenshot_20210412-002435_Tactacam Reveal.jpgthis guy walks by my cams almost everyday. Long snood. Hes got a nice beard on him too. Just pulled up yesterday in my truck n he gobbled and strutted away right in front of us about 40 yds away. He must be ready to die next monday. We had toms gobblin back at us and we werent even using diaphragms or calls. Just usin our mouths. No way these turkeys have never been shot at before, im sure theyll wise up real quick though.

I was able to close the deal this morning. 21.5 lbs, 9.5" beard, 1" spurs.
Birds didn't like my mouth call this morning. Birds gobbling everywhere though. Ended up moving closer to where it sounded like they were. Crested a military point to see a bird running through the bottom. Hen I believe. Went ahead and set up. Still no luck on the mouth call. Switched over to my box call and 3-4 birds started gobbling hard. Had what I thought was a hen start coming back at me so I just intensified. Next thing I know, I see a red head and think, yep this is about to happen. Turns out it was a jake and he was the one loudly yelping back to me. Came all the way in to the decoys (set way to close to me at maybe 10 yards). Bird gobbling behind him so I just stay on the gun. No gobbler, jake works his way back away. Once clear to move, I call and he calls right back. 5 or so minutes later, a gobbler thunders off to my right. CLOSE! Fire back at him with the box call. Then that old red head pops up on the other side of a log. He jumps up on that log about 40 yards away and proceeds to lock right up behind some small saplings, staring at my deeks and gobbling his head off. I can hear him spitting and drumming (believe that's what it's called). He stays there for a good 5 minutes making me question whether he's about to tuck tail and run, do I have a clear enough shot? He finally jumps off that log and closes to about 30 when I let him have it! I didn't bring my video cam as it's too cumbersome for run and gun but I thought I had some cell phone footage of at least the vocals but nope, my phone had went to sleep after the previous encounter and when I turned it back on, it came up in photo mode and not video so when I hit the record button, it just took a single pic. I do have some of the vocals of that jake yelping and the gobbling behind him but the cam had fallen over and was pointing at the leaves.

Wow that's a shooter. Be sure you're right down on the stock and barrel though or a red dot. I could see me shooting over the close toms that sneak in with that kind of super-tight pattern. Nice!!!

It's not about whether the feller doing the shooting deserves to live; it's about whether the feller getting shot is going to live!! I wouldn't gobble or jake yelp on public land, but maybe I'm just over-sensitive to being shot (if that's even possible!).

I believe PA prohibits hunting turkeys while on the move, as do some other states. Know the regs in your area, and most importantly, be safe out there!
With the effective range and lethality of the latest turkey shells I have a very real fear far more for my sons than myself of getting shot.
When on public land if Im set up for anything longer than a few minutes I secure a piece of blaze orange vest over a branch as close to where my son or sons and myself are sitting as I can.
Been doing it as long as I've hunted public land over 15 years now never spooked a single bird.
But I only hunt limited entry public turkey land so hunting pressure is minimal
I have no doubt WHATSOEVER even at 150 yards some turkey shells can put you in the ER.

Meadow Creek mount and an AT3 Tactical ARO reflex.

Nice set up. I use that same red dot. Decent little guys. I mounted mine on the reciever with a saddle though. That way if it dies i can see down the barrel still. I have bad luck with electronics.

Got a second one for my stevens 301T in 410 bore. Would like to try one on my M&P 9mm or kimber 10mm to see how well it holds up. Would love to keep one on the 10mm for deer hunting.

I use the good lithium batteries and put new ones in every year. Also have a TRS-25 on my 20 gauge that I've been using for 4 seasons.

My turkey tag finally showed up in the mail today. I was beginning to think I was only going to be able to act as a guide for my daughter tomorrow. She definitely gets priority but its much more fun if there's at least a chance of a double.
