Turkey Talk

Had another great turkey camp in N Missouri. This bird was slick and tried the ol slip in from behind silent technique. It in fact did not work out in his favor as the Warhammer smashed him at 11 steps.

I struck him at around 1:45 for the second time that mid day and he gobbled 3 times total. Glassed him come into the stubble at around 200 and start working his way around the field edge. A friend and myself settled into the tall grass on a levy bank and waited. At 3:00 I told my buddy that I don’t mind the waiting when can see what’s going on with the bird. Not 5 seconds later Pfft dummmm right on the top of the levy not 10’ above us. He had slipped the creek bank behind the levy right to our exact spot and spit and drummed.

He started off the levy on our side and realized he f****d up. He tried to dart back to his right but was met with a giant blackberry bush that turned him back to the left and into the open. He hung up for a split second trying to figure out what was sitting there when the air filled with bees. Swoll head up like a grapefruit.

One thing I’ve noticed is the #9’s don’t rip their head off like a load of number #5’s will at close range but it will swell them up and turn to jelly. His noggin was twice the size as it was before the shot.
