There is a super strict lottery, short season, and brief legal hours here in DE because turkeys are a recovering species, but I see them all the time when deer hunting. I saw way more turkey than deer in my first hunting season, or at least it felt that way when those red-headed velociraptors would prowl around snipping up bugs and toads, or make me #2-myself as they came down from roost in the blackness around my treestand because they sound like news choppers sharing your limb-space. The turkeys around here are not really afraid of hunters either, because the pressure is so light and each successful hunter is only allowed one bird per season anyway. I've only had one "run away" from me, and that dude was FAST. All others have regarded me with less-than-mild curiosity, and even what I might call outright arrogance lol. I haven't applied for the lottery after 5 additional seasons, but I feel like I've been able to scout a lot of potential turkitory (turkey territory?) in lieu of still-hunting for deer. They're truly dinosaurs. I love watching them, and eating them, and I love practicing with my mouth cutter and owl call, so I think I may apply this season and grow to love shooting them with a razor sharp Montec if Mama Nature so deems me fit to.
