TX5 Saddle by Matthew Tompkins

Sure is, him and rocky. They taught me alot about the industry. What you charging for saddles? Im looking at getting a tethrd soon but would love to stay local if i can afford it. Yours looks plenty comparable.

Man I'm going to tell you first hand, I just sold my mantis. I bought one then put mine up for sale right after I sat in Matthews

Im just trying to get started at the moment. Everyone is back ordered and expensive to boot.

As a huge fan of DIY and non-commercial saddle toys, the OP caught my eye immediately his post and I had to find out more. I have had several conversations with Matthew since that day and have had the pleasure of seeing his work in person. I didn't want to post anything until I had ample time to test one myself, but I can add that the attention to detail, sewing, and overall quality on mine is better than the Aerohunter Flex, and more comfortable than any other commercial saddle I have tried (going back to a Greene's). It has been tested side by side on trees with the Flex and Wraptor and beat them both, and before this point, I would have put the Wraptor and Flex in a dead heat for most comfortable. If you are wanting to go a different route than the minions, I would encourage you to reach out to Matthew, explore possibilities, and see what you think for yourselves. Sorry for the selected picture area, but I really like having a one of a kind saddle, so I didn't want to share too much, and the previous posts had lots of great pics already!20200108_193921.jpg

When you’re comparing comfort, did you get one with the pleat ala flex or no pleat ala kite? And was the sizing custom and how was the size determined?

I will never run a saddle without a pleat (other than the Anderson style that truly ended the saddle game over 25 years ago!). The dimensions were based on discussion with Matthew and some personal preferences based on my old size 2 Flex and Wraptor. For reference, AH says I should wear a size 1, but this one is a touch bigger than a 2, and it works because I do not walk in with my saddle on me. This feels as close to a fleece saddle as I can get.

Sounds perfect

My TX5. Under construction. Not finished until late next week.
A new fabric. Wolf skin. Predator pattern. Can’t wait to see it finished.
