Umbrellas?

I always carried in a treestand umbrella on those mornings with a chance of rain, but those style umbrellas look like they wouldn't cover a saddle hunters back. Am I correct in my thinking? Have you guys found an umbrella that works good with a saddle?

I would like to know a good umbrella for this too. I have a regular hunting one but does seem too small for this.

If it is just a short duration shower and you are on a platform, you could still use that umbrella by running your tether over a shoulder and putting your back to the tree until the rain passes.

I've sat under my old treestand umbrella a bunch without much issues as long as it's not raining horizontally (i.e. windy). I pretty much always sit knees to the tree and lean forward with my chest and head resting on my bridge so the umbrella covers me nicely. I actually have more issues with the rain dripping off the tether carabiner into my lap.

Have read on here where others use a drip line off their tether to redirect the water before it reaches the carabiner. Makes perfect since, but makes me wonder if some type water proofing could be used on the tether itself, in order to prevent saturation past the drip line. Thinking a good set of packable rain gear will be a must no matter what, just don't see a saddle staying dry if it rains. Wet butt would suck.

Thanks for mentioning the sitting position, had my mind hung up on the leaning position and back being exposed to drip line from umbrella.

Yeah, I've been through this on another thread but the issue at hand is getting the drip line tight enough on the tether to actually lead the water away. The knot on the drip line inherently leaves an opening for water to pass by in the orientation of the drip line. Unfortunately this is downward. I've tried a bunch of different potential solutions but none have been effective thus far. I've pretty much come to the conclusion that I have to separate my knees enough to let the water drip between them. Its less comfortable but beats being wet.

My knees are the first to get soaked under an umbrella in a saddle ,but putting an aerosol spray rainproofer on top of the umbrella is on my to do list ,when it got soaked it dripped everywhere not bad just annoying

They work well if the winds not blowing hard. This one is a cheap Walmart model, best $9.99 ever spent!

Why camouflage? Shouldn't it be more leaves and sky looking?

I’m not the designer and that’s all that was available. Again, less than $10. I’m not aware of a better option and I don’t use an umbrella unless it’s really raining hard.

"Not aware of a better option" is exactly why I started the thread. As you mentioned above, they are fantastic for what they are, but wondering what else is available that we haven't thought of yet. By the way, most of the ones I've used have been Mossy Oak Breakup and must look like a gigantic squirrel nest when wet, extremely dark. I always pack them up when the rain stops, unless it's the early season and there is still a canopy, then I just leave it up and let it dry.

Mine is wet in the picture. I worry about the sound of rain hitting the umbrella more than the color. It’s really unnatural.

Have screw in, never seen one that wasn’t. On a side note, they double well for a portable ground blind. Tree cut makes a nice shooting lane for bow.

I would be interested in a non screw in kind too.

I've used that style umbrella for years with out screwing into trees by using a strap on step. I drilled a hole into plastic strap on step and screw umbrella in to that.
