Has anyone ever put Rust-Oleum undercoating spray on their saddle platform or climbing sticks? More thinking about any part that would make contact with the tree but also wondering if it would work on the entire platform and stick.

I'd prefer not to have that stuff get on my boots from standing on the platform.

What is your intended purpose of this? For quieting or protection. Most of the platforms are aluminum so you shouldn't have to be concerned about corrosion.

My cruzr seeker came with rust spots right out of the box so just looking for something to maintain the platform and have durability

I use the about 3 to 4 coats of rustoleum bed liner it works great just touch up at the end of season and it looks new again but the under coat doesn't dry hard enough. Imo.

Good to know. Once the season is over I will have to pick some up. Do you put that down similar to a primer and paint over it?

I just lightly sanded my stick and platform then started putting my layers on letting it dry a few hours between coats. I also paint over the black after the final coat to break up the outline. I have used this for 3 years now and it works very for me.

Looks like I messed up painting mine 2 weeks before season

Even though I do everything that I can to reduce any odor regardless of what it is, I do suspect that deer are not all that alarmed by strictly chemical odors. I don't classify those types of odors as "human" odors. Human odors are the ones that our bodies emit, those predator odors that deer have evolved avoiding.
I'm not sure that deer can make the connection between synthetic chemical odors and predator odors. Deer contend with pretty much every odor present in the air when they cross roadways. If gasoline, oil, paint, and 1,000 other odors alarmed deer, then why don't deer avoid roads, factories, and back yards? I suspect that it's the actual human predator, bacterial type odors that alarms them.

But with that being said, I still don't take the chance that a particular deer that I need to remain unalarmed won't get skittish if it smells chemicals. I see zero benefit to having the odor present but I can imagine benefits from reducing odors.

You should be fine, last year I painted my primal steps the day before I left for a hunting trip, 2 hours in the bed of a truck and one rainstorm later they didn’t seem to smell. Next day had 2 does underneath my tree completely unaware of anything

If he was really worried, he could make a baking soda and water paste and rub all over and let dry.
