I bought some Amsteel to make my own ropes for climbing sticks. I don’t have a fid, but I found something in the basement that worked quite well. My grandpa was a medical doctor and model airplane enthusiast (regular models + RC). He had all kinds of gadgets he’d bring home from work to help with his hobby. He passed a few years ago, and I have some of his old tools and such. I found this contraption that I was able to fish through the Amsteel and then grab the ends with the unique “jaws” at the end. So instead of pushing through with a fid, I was pulling through. I think the end result was great for a first timer!

He was not a hunter, but he would love knowing that I’m using stuff from his passion to work on mine!
