Upgrade your Tethrd Mantis into a Tethrd Phantom (Amsteel prussik bridge)

I didn’t realize tethrd splices the Prussik end; I went with a double fisherman’s knot. I may redo that connection with a splice into itself to eliminate extra bulk.

Always test your equipment at ground level and under excessive circumstances; I.E simulating a fall or sudden drop. At the end of all this it’s always about making it home.
Yeah I'd be worried about the tied prussic with amsteel.

Double fisherman is the same connection most Prussiks are tied with ( although they don’t use a steel). I did burn the ends of the amsteel so the tag ends could not slip through. I would not be able to untie this if I decide to resplice it, it will have to be cut off.

Thanks for the Tip.. think I’ll make one for my new tree hopper sling.

I love the creativity. I will say check that prussik well at ground level. Tethrd splices a continuous loop for their prussik.
But if you replace the bridge, add the comfort channels, and reposition the linesman’s loops your still only half way their. It’s all about the cup and how that thing wraps around my but for me. Then the comfort channels. Everything else are just nice additions. I can definitely see some benefit to adding all those upgrades to the mantis but it won’t make it a phantom.

Agree 100%, but I got the mantis for Christmas and noticed some discomfort. Wasn’t about to buy a new saddle when the phantom was released. If you’re in the market for a saddle, go with the phantom.

Can anyone help me out on thinking through the continuous loop 3/16 splice on the bridge loop? It seems like getting that to work out would be hard to do on the loop after the fact unless I’m missing something.

It can be done, you will cuss alot until you get it. Then you call yourself a dumba$$ for not figuring it out quicker. I've said that to a couple of guys, then once they figured it out they were like yep!!

Care to elaborate on steps? Assume I know how to make a continuous loop and locked brummell but need the rest.

You guys are close... Keep going.

I think i may have it figured out, but cannot explain it on here well enough for anyone to understand. Ill try it out when i get home and if it works, ill make a video and post it. If it doesnt work...well ill let you experts teach everyone haha

Yes!

On a related note my wife got me a Tethrd gift card for my birthday so my concern level on this is hopefully going to become academic in February. Although, I may keep my Mantis as a backup and will want that option on it still. I also have some buddies pushing me on it since I now can’t stop splicing Amsteel—it’s therapeutic.

Nice! Did you use rope inside also?

Yea 1/2 in rope.

Midway through I questioned whether this way would be better or just using a piece of tubular webbing folded several times and stitched down incrementally to make the channels.

I decided it was too much work to restart with another method but I feel both methods would work.

I feel like using a small plastic ball bearing might do the trick instead of a piece of rope. Would keep the bulged part from collapsing under weight.

So looking at this, would you need to loop thorough the bridge, make the prusik wraps, then join via splice in the end? That seems really hard to pull off for a continuous loop. I guess you could also make the wraps and then join at the end through the loop but it doesn’t seem any easier.

Splice the amsteel continuous loop on to the bridge loop, spin the prussic in the line, insert the 1/4” doubled amsteel, then tie the stopper knot.

Doesn’t the part on the bridge loop need to be fed through the other end of the loop to finish the knot? I know I must be missing something but am just not able to visualize it.

I thinking this adjustable bridge might fit nicely with the JX3. Just add a carabiner on the prussik.

If you've already got the big bulky jx3, why bother? I'm sure the adjustment would be a benefit but there are easier options. Oplux Rope or webbing isn't that much more weight either
