I’m jumping into the aider game and the versa aider has really peaked my interest. I always want to be as safe as possible as I hunt in areas with no cell service and if I’m hurt I cannot call for help.

Has anyone ever had a gear failure or “close call” while using a versa aider? Thanks!

You might want to consider an in-reach mini or a zoleo if you routinely hunt in areas without cell coverage. With either you could send text or in a for real bad situation use the sos button.

Edit: I have the zoleo and it has worked well for me. I run the service through hunting season then switch the plan to standby and it cost $3-4 dollars a month on standby

I got a Garmin InReach for 250 (on sale from 400) from sportsman's warehouse.

Well worth the money to be able to call for help whenever you can see the sky.

I've never used a versaaider....but putting that extra force on that bolt that is already holding the strap....seems not great to me. Just my gut.

When you hang your aider off the stick more traditionally, then everything sees a similar force to when stepping (or more similar).

My favorite are carry as you go aiders that are just a loop of climbing webbing that hang over top of stick behind top steps.

I also would never use an aider that girth hitches to my boot.

I use Mike Isbell's versa aider with my Beast Mini's and love it. I've never had a failure or close call and like it better than other types of aiders I've used. You need to consider what stick you use and the type versa button it has. Mike doesn't recommend the Versa Aider for Tethr'd One sticks. fyi

I second the ZOLEO. Used it on my backcountry Utah hunt and also areas here in KY with bad cell service.

I use an aider much like a Versa-Aider but I just make it longer and loop it over the top steps of my Shikars. Seems more secure and it places the force where it normally goes.

Versa aider is without question the best aider there is. Infalt himself cautioned against it, as the bolt isn't tested or rated for that much direct downwards pressure. That said, I've used mine hundreds of times without issue. And have never seen on this website nor any other a failure of the versabutton. At the end of the day you do you and use caution.

I use something similar to a versa aider. Mine is a little longer and I attach to the top step. That way I can feel it with my hand.
With any one step aider, you are always one step from safety.
