Virginia group chat/possible meet up?

I switched to hunting mornings in the early season this year, mainly cause I'm not comfortable working up a deer and walking out in the dark. I'm either too old, wise or both and feel walking in or out in the dark will lead to a hospital stay at some point.

Three hunts into the season and I really can't tell a difference from hunting mornings and evenings, other than the cooler temperatures, which is a win for me. I have bumped deer, but seriously I don't know how you deer hunt and not bump deer.

Loving the cooler temps though.

NoVa checking in! We are a week in, weather was warm to start and now rain and (imho) not enough cooling down. What has everyone been seeing? I went out in Culpeper a few days ago and only saw 1 doe on the drive back. Hopefully you guys are making contact with those arrows!

PWC here, I’m hanging this am. We’ll see what happens. Wanted to get out Friday AM to work that cold front but that wasn’t in the cards.

Planning on being out there Friday afternoon, Sat, Sun and all day Monday. They are hitting the scrapes and are nudging the does in Stephens City, VA.
Had two bears mess around two different mock scrapes about .5 mile apart. Hopefully they are gone and I get the deer back on camera.

Had this little guy and a 8 point chasing around 9 does in front of me. The 8 disappeared, his buddy kept scaring away and grunting at the girls. They knew he only wanted one thing from them so they kept moving around and not giving me a shot. The little guy stopped at the mock scrape and that was the end of him.

Unless it’s a monsoon hunt the wind and wear a poncho. Shot a nice 8 in the pouring rain a few years back, deers gotta eat too.
So would you hunt near bedding, food or transition zones?
As soon the rain slows just a bit ; the bucks will be out checking their travel routes and freshening up their scrapes.

There’s food right now so I’d hunt bedding or transition points but you being in Stephan’s city you’re more mountainous and cooler than where I’m at in NOVA so keep your options open.
