Virginia group chat/possible meet up?

I think year 1 was almost a guarantee, I doubt the winners go 6 for 6 this year but we will see.

The tag is for hunting the 3 protected counties in VA where the elk were reintroduced. I think it will be a lot of years before it is not guaranteed or they open those 3 counties up to regular hunting.

You can kill the elk as soon as they step foot out of those 3 counties with a regular buck tag. So, it is technically open right now.

Yeah, good point. I’m not sure I wanna be the first person to check in an elk that wasn’t part of the lottery hunt though, lol. Lots of questions would be asked, I’m sure.

Semper Fi,
Mike

People have been checking them in for years. WV, TN, and KY reintroduced elk years ago. As soon as they crossed the VA line they were fair game during deer season. Just cost you a buck tag. For the past 7-10 years the elk have had a 3 county sanctuary in VA. Last year was the first year they were hunted in the sanctuary.

Every few years Elk get killed off a regular deer tag. I'm gonna put in again this year.

New guy here. I’m in Va Beach. I registered on the forum a while back but haven’t been active. I haven’t been hunting in years and only bow hunted a couple times. Just got on a lease out in Suffolk…no dogs allowed. I probably would have got on anyway, but that one fact was music to my ears.

Would love to have a no dogs place, but this being eastern VA, there is no guarantee they won’t come running through anyway.

Welcome aboard. I’m from Chesapeake. For you south side guys, do any of you use a CRUZER XC saddle size 2? I would like to do a fit check before I pull the trigger. I currently have a Overwatch Transformer. Love the comfort of it but it’s heavier than the CRUZER.

I have a sz 3 in Chesterfield but probably a bit farther than you’re looking for.

I hear ya. It borders the GDS on the east and the other side is a combo of a car junk yard and another piece of private that is owned by a biker club so here’s to hoping.

I’m in Virginia Beach near Kellum High School. I’m out that way quite a bit as well. I have an XC size two you are welcomed to try, got a one stick too if you are up for that as well. I’m retired so my schedule is pretty much wide open right now. Just send me a message and we can get togeather.
