Virginia Scouting

Thick, hot, and tough to scout new properties. Seems to be more productive from the front seat of my truck with some bino’s in the evening. The fawn population seems to be thriving in SW Virginia with more dropping every day. I have not had boots on the ground as much this year (post season) as I have in the past, but have spent much more time working on playing with arrow set ups, and shooting from various ranges, angles, and heights. Cams will go out the first - second week of July.

Sadly I’ve had exactly zero time between job responsibilities and family obligations. The properties I hunt also have ongoing construction nearby so I expect this season will be a zero but I hope I’m wrong. I’ve got a few cameras running since May that I’m gonna check in July/August so I can gauge activity.

I got these today from one of my cameras. Vegetation is super thick in the mountains right now.

Mine is going great. Looking in from the exterior I'm seeing a ton of deer, but I keep a very sober mind because the season is about 2mos off.

In fact drove by one area yesterday and seen a car in the parking lot with no one inside, which means someone is scouting or hiking the interior.

It doesn't take much to bump a group of deer out of the area.

This is the reason, especially on public land, I don't rely on pre season intel. I will keep it in the back of my mind but I don't bank on it.

Way better to wait for season to open, take a pulse check on pre season Intel and then hunt and set up on fresh sign.
