Wasted meat, really disappointed in myself

Ugh. I forgot to put all of the trim to be ground/jerky meat from my doe in the freezer and left it in the bottom of my fridge in ziplocs (my wife put something on top of it but this is still my fault). Thankfully the roasts/back straps got vacuum sealed and frozen right away so it's not a total loss but it's probably half the meat and it's not even good enough for dog food any more, what a crappy waste and I'm so mad at myself. Remember the details, friends, because this sucks. I can't even blame it on the power going out or anything, I just neglected something I care about and feel like a dumbarse. Now also really regretting letting a few deer walk since, violated my "shoot every legal deer in range" rule I set for myself because I had meat in the freezer. I still have some, but not as much as I should. Rule back in place.

Anyhow, I've shared most of my success on here so wanted to share a fail as well. Hopefully I'll be able to shoot one or two to make up for it, and they will go in the freezer on time.

It was there for a month and yes I sniffed it (even though I knew already by visual as some of the upper portions had started turning a bit green. Quite possible some of the lower meat (that was half frozen) was ok but I wasn't going to risk it, and tossed the whole bag. I'd forgotten about it for weeks due to some personal drama, this was not a wet ageing experiment gone wrong.

A month is rough. Go kill another. deer meat is a renewable resource

Don't beat yourself up too bad over it. Sh*it happens to the best of us but the good news is you get to hunt some more and a lot of places are overpopulated with deer so your not gonna put the local herd in jeopardy by taking another one out. It happened to me once with a couple of nice brook trout so I know how you feel.

This is true, there's no shortage of deer in MD if you don't mind shooting does so I plan to quit whining and get after it later in the season. I had actually saved the hide from this doe to experiment with tanning so that balances out the use of the animal to an extent as I'd usually toss that part, but... I can't eat it. Or I guess... Won't?

When in doubt, throw it out!! Bright side is you get to keep hunting

I left a quail in the vacuum sealer for a few days one time and those suckers are hard to come by nowadays. It’s amazing how a task can just exit the brain only to come crashing back in when it’s to late.
