Weatherby Vanguard Owners, Your Thoughts?

I stopped in at the local gun shop to look at potentials for a new rifle to be used primarily for coyote and at the range. I got to hold a Vanguard .223 and really liked the feel.

For those of you who own and use a Vanguard, how do you like it? Would it be money well spent or should I consider something else?

I still shoot a Vanguard VGX .270 that I bought in 1988. Beautiful rifle, deadly accurate with any ammo. What more can you ask for?

I bought a Weatherby Vanguard Weatherguard Bronze in .30-06 a couple years ago. It shoots great, and I love it--simple as that. Highly recommend it.

My dad has a Weatherby vanguard 30-06 that is the single most accurate rifle I've personally witnessed. It came with a target showing the sub-moa group fired from the factory, and it routinely cloverleafs at 100 yards with regular old corelokts.

Looks like you need to head back to the store @Frontman44 lol
It sure does!

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I had been hoping to pick up a used rifle for a bit less money but it seems like I might have to go with this one. It did feel really nice in my hands and the action seemed buttery smooth. I figure by the time I outfit it with a decent scope I'll probably come in at nearly double what I was hoping to spend...time to work a little overtime.

Yep, mine came with the target as well.

They're incredible rifles. I had a vanguard 300 Weatherby I sold that had horrid recoil. Only thing I would change/upgrade immediately is the crap trigger. A 150$ timney will turn it loose

I'll take a Howa 1500 - whether in a Weatherby badge or S&W like mine - over a Remington 700 any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Hands down. No exaggeration. The rifle is better-made, the Mauser-style flat bottom receiver and integral recoil lug combined with the modern-style extractor is just a tough combination to beat. Add to that, it's a very well-made and well-thought-out rifle. The aftermarket for this rifle has really blown up over the last 5-10 years or so since Howa started marketing them under their own brand instead of slapping Weatherby or Mossberg or S&W or InterArms rollmarks on them. Boyd's makes excellent stocks, and most (if not all) of the MDT chassis line is available in both long and short action 1500s. Mine is a 7mm Rem Mag labeled as a S&W, in a Boyd's stock, and it shoots light-out.

Have one in a 25-06 and love it, but the several deer have not. It’s all about the glass you put on it.
Couldn't agree more about the optics. Already have a vortex 6-24 x 50 with a graduated MOA reticle lined up to put on this combo when I can finally afford it
