I'm sure this topic has been beat to death. Anyways I have 75' of Predator rope and I would like to start climbing. I started with a Blake's hitch and a double clove to just to try something. What other options or suggestions do you have? I'm completely new to all of this and want to be careful. Thank you.

I just started with the same set up last week and i like it. Once i have this figured out fairly well i will try one sticking for those early morning hunts where i have no preset line to get my rope over the limb.
A big thing i found so far for DRT climbing is having a thin grippy glove makes a difference in pulling the rope through.

There's quite a learning curve to DRT so practice as often as you can. Leaning trees can be a challenge, gravity can quickly disrupt your climbing ideas and plans. Para cords and climbing lines like to tangle and everything on the forest floor seems to get caught up in the rope. There's lots of fun and frustration to be had, I've only been at it a short time but have made lots of mistakes and been humbled many times. I'm hoping that It will all be second nature by next fall, it's like anything else you have to do it to know it. IMO it's very well worth the effort, I'm having a blast!

You are so right. I had a terrible climbing day yesterday. First i couldn't hit the crotch, then i tried climbing the tree with a slight lean and ended up swinging around it unplanned. I finally had to abort. There is quite a learning curve on where to put your line and how that will affect your climb.

Yes, I got my legs and butt dragged over some briers with one of those swing arounds. I haven't delved into the throw ball thing yet I've been using a telescoping stick or the one stick climb to get to the crotch. I could see that string and throw ball getting stuck and tangled in everything.

It's back ordered, but I'm probably going to buy the SRT kit on Wesspur. Been thinking about adding a rope climbing option.

I also have a bunch of predator rope in my basement, but I think I'd rather do SRT or at the very least get a friction saver for DRT to save wear on my rope.

I made a friction saver out of 1" mil spec tubular webbing, I posted pics in the DIY section (falling friction saver/rope protector thread). I'm 250lbs and I've been up over 30 trees with my rope (most without the friction saver) and the rope looks fine. Ebay has the leather friction savers for $28

There are much more efficient methods for climbing DRT than hip thrusting and a Blake's hitch. With the addition of a Hitchclimber pulley/eye to eye prussic and hitch of your choice and a foot ascender plus a simple friction (cambrium) saver.

This is what I looking for when I stated the thread. Thank you.

I have two bridges on my saddle, I use the shorter bridge if I'm horizontal hip thrusting, with the pivot point closer to the body it seems to give me more control (less swinging) while climbing. If I'm using a leg ascender while DRTing I connect to the longer bridge, with the pivot point farther away from the body it's more comfortable while sitting or staying more vertical while ascending. If I have to hang a platform or a stick I'll hook up to the longer bridge because I can sit there and work more comfortably. When you use different saddle bridge lengths you'll have to adjust your line bridge length so you can reach the friction hitch and also so you have enough rope space under the friction hitch to pull on.

Are you one sticking me to get your preset paracord hung?

I wouldn't stick you but yes I've sticked up a few trees this year just to hang paracords. Also after using the pole and ascending so far DRT I will hang a stick to climb up or climb up branches and rehook the DRT rope/paracord on a higher branch for the next climb.
