What’s everyone taking to the woods this year?

Get down to 400 and add 50grains in the point, you should be at the right dynamic spine

The 500 spine @ 31" is too weak with an aluminum insert and 100g field tip. The 400 spine @ 30.5" is still a little stiff with a 100g brass insert and a 300g field point. That's already heavier than I want to go. The 400's may shoot at full length, I just haven't bought a full length 400 to try yet.

Not sure about everyone else's experience but, in my experience changes in point weight with carbon arrows don't make as big of a difference as it does with aluminum but, small changes in length make a big difference with carbon.

Don't forget about building out your strike plate. It makes the arrow shoot stiffer. Just a little change can make a difference. I just taped various things like a piece of toothpick (which was way too much of a change) to my window.
I ended up staying with my original amount of center shot, but adjusting the strike plate can be a solution to a weak spine. At the very least, it is an interesting experiment. Not sure I would ever make any changes permanent to my bow, but just adding a little shim behind the strike plate is something that does not alter the bow's construction and it can easily be undone.

That was actually going to be the next thing I tried. My riser is cut about 1/8 past center and there is nothing behind my strike plate at the moment. I'm not sure it's going to be enough to get the 500 spine to fly and let me add the point weight I want to it but, I'm going to try it.

Sorry @shamus275 for high jacking your thread with tuning questions.

I don’t mind. I’m enjoying the tuning comments as I went through a fairly drawn out tuning process this year between bare shaft, paper tune and finally adjusting my side plate out just a hair to get perfect arrow flight. If it helps someone else then it’s all good!

Zwicky is a fine head. A vented head might work for you. I wish Magnus was still making the carbon steel vented heads I would recommend those.

Two setups:

shooting 70-75 doug fir
White paint crested with 4in right helical turkey feather fletchings & top hat adapter for lighted nocks. Pushing a 135gr Zwickey Delta w/ 100 grain woodie weight. Total weight coming in at 650 grains.

Bodnik slick stick, reflex long bow. 50# at 28”. Shooting 30” cedars from 3 rivers that I wrapped and fletched myself. 125 grain grizzly broadheads. I wanted to shoot 185 grain but didn’t get stiff enough shafts. still learning. But I got the ones tuned up with 125 and the broadheads fly just as good if not better than the field points. I spent a couple weeks shooting bare shafts to be sure. I’ll throw up some pics later.
