Blows my mind how much stuff people carry for deer.
What I consider essential:
1.) Stand and sticks
2.)Weapon + arrows or bullets
3.)Rangefinder.
4.)Grunt tube
5.)I wear pants and bibs going in. Jacket strapped to stand.
6.)Milkweed
7.) Harness along with tree tether, lineman's belt, and pull-up Paracord.
8.) Headlamp
9.) Phone.
What is not essential:
1.) Knife. Stays in the car. I kill a deer and I go back to car to get it along with bringing all my gear back to get ready for the pack out.
2.) Binos. I carry them sometimes depending on stand. But definitely a nice to have not a must have.
3.) Don't carry water or food. Water is added weight I'm not lugging around. I eat a big breakfast and don't get hungry on stand
4.) Backpack. Extra weight I don't need and isn't necessary. I carry everything in my cargo pockets.

Same! Actually going over your list to double check mine. I do carry a super small pack as I hate things in my pockets for whatever reason. I’m trying to think of the least amount of stuff I need.

if i'm hunting small pieces where i have cell coverage, then i don't carry as much

it's really dependent upon where you hunt for a lot of us

i hunt some places where if you got lost in the winter you could die before anyone finds you because it is a huge tract of land (national forest) and one of the highest points in the state (can get very cold and snowy pretty fast) and there's no cell service....the advantage is you can hunt deer that are on public land and not pressured

I have lost a lot of good shirt sleeves hunting like this…. Add TP to your list and you will thank me someday… it’s the only day you won’t need your grunt tube.

Actually don’t thank me, I don’t need to know.

Absolutely. I've never heard of a hunter dying of thirst on the stand. We go out 4-12 hrs. You'll be just fine.
A rangefinder is essential. I can't stand the macho attitude some people have that they're good range estimators. Nonsense, were all human and aren't perfect. We owe it to the game we pursue to kill the animal quickly as possible and to place the arrow as perfect as possible. A rangefinder helps tremendously with that

Other than when I eat hot wings, I consider myself quite gifted to hold the backdoor shut till I get home.

Ya need to stuff it all in a pack that weighs about 30lbs when it’s all said and done.

While I agree that a rangefinder is a handy tool to have, part of being a well rounded hunter imo is having the ability to judge yardage well in the field. You may not have time in every scenario to pull and use a rangefinder or the battery could crap out, etc. You may have to limit your shots to distances you can confidently range instead of some distance you ranged then dialed a sight too. Learning to judge yardage is vital part of tuning the bowhunter and a skill slowly fading as more people depend on technology to do their hunting for them.

What if u drop ur pack outta the tree and need ur safety stuff?

This is why I have dump pouches on my saddle. I know many don’t like them but all of my climbing gear is in those pouches. That way, if I do drop (or forget) my pack, I can still climb, hunt and get down.

Tether, linesman, grapple hook, whistle, and little single AA flashlight stay on my saddle and knife and phone in the pocket.

I hunt by myself but average wma maybe 9k-12k acres....so even at the "deepest" I can go it's not crazy far.

I could definetly not take some of the stuff I carry but I take the extra weight for things I know can be useful throughout the day. I normally don't have any real set plan when I leave the truck in the morning so I like to be ready for any situation I might come across

My vest contents are;
frogg togg poncho and frogg togg wide brim rain hat
thermacell with holder + 1 extra fuel canister and 3 extra pads
extra hitch cord + extra biner for if I find a tree that I can easy throw my grapple over and rope climb up
Gear hanger/bow holder
Trail marking stuff, wine cork with some tacks, small amount of traditional flagging tape, and reflective string
Bug head net
Ziploc with tp, benadryl, little plastic tweezer, gauze, lighter, little bit of duct tape, 3 AAA, little bit of vet wrap,.and hunting licence/quota paperwork
Paracord "tether" with mason line prusik....this is easy access on the vest and I use mainly for if I want to real quick hang my vest/bow. Think like walking thru flooded woods and want to real quick set ur bow down..throw little tether on real quick and hang
Climbing stirrups,aider, and platform
Doyels
Coin purse with wind checker
Ball compass
32oz water
Rangefinder
Pull down cord
Headlamp
Any food I want to take

The way I got it situated/organized if I know I won't be climbing I can utilize the molle and easy remove all climbing related stuff or if I know it's only a short hunt I just use the molle and remove what I don't need....

i won't mention stuff like climbing steps, etc

1. garmin inreach
2. cell phone
3. anker battery pack and charging cords
4. large headlamp
5. small headlamp
6. 1 extra battery for all headlamps (and my fenix keychain light)
7. two 12 ounce bottles of water
8. 4 granola bars
9. hand towel i use to cough into but can have other uses
10. toilet paper
12. 2 folding knives
13. paracord in form of pull up rope
14. reflective emergency blanket
15. packable rain suit
16. emergency poncho
17. 3 lighters
18. fire starters
19. 45 acp with extra magazine
20. compass
21. paper map if i'm going in particularly deep and utm grid tool

I'll probably throw in a few water purification tablets

Good list…I probably need battery pack for in Reach I normally keep on charger in truck during season…keep lifestraw for backup… also sig 9m… Thanks raisins!

I got a second vest that is for scouting/turkey and I take 1 stick when I scout/set cameras.....a single 1 pound and change stick carries just fine but yeah....4 sticks would be a little much I think. It took a couple seasons to get it all organized correctly....I like it because everything has its home and I have everything I use the most in easy reach and most important to me is I don't have to take anything off and unclip/strap at the base of the tree....set weapon down and attach doyels, reach behind and into butt pack and remove stirrup and attach, remove aider from pouch right in front of me and attach, and away I go.
I've taken more and I've taken less but some of those expendable things I could leave behind sure are useful when the situation presents itself....never know what I'm gonna get into out there

Man happy for you… so much more effective when you don’t have to think about your system…!

I attached a Leatherman Signal to my saddle in a magnetic closure pouch. It’s access to a small saw, knife, magnesium fire starter, and whistle all in one.

Do you have a link or pic of this magnetic closure pouch. I'm about to order a signal and I'm looking for options
