So I know that the tree is helping disguise us. I get that. So, do you set up on a tree that has the easier shooting side advantage? On private ground I use bait, and I’m left handed. Thank you in advance for the help

If you can I would set up in any tree that’s: 1. Possible to climb and sit in, 2. Gives you every advantage for making a good shot and is easiest for you- within the area you think the deer will come from. If you’re hunting over bait I would think your options would be narrowed down pretty well for you as to what tree is best for your situation.

If your hunting over bait the deer would be more alert. I think that I would set up higher than normal (like Eberhart high 25-30ft). In this case, I would sit on the same side you expect the deer to be coming from...because once all those deer are out on the bait, you dont want to be on the same side as them with all of those eyes. Also, with bait , deer can come from any direction. So, I would most likely setup with the best shooting lane while taking advantage of the wind, knowing that there is the possibility that I might have to take a weak side shot.

What type of weapon are you using?

Set up a junk ladder stand close to the bait. Every time you bait, make sure you get your scent all over the ladder stand. Sweaty shirts, whatever. Maybe even sit in it a time or three.

Then make your saddle setups downwind of the ladder stand. And where you can access without passing by your bait or ladder stand.

And setup where you have your easiest shot directed toward the bait.

I always set up with my 9:00 to where I think the deer will be when he is in shooting range. I’m right handed. The less movement I have to make to take a shot the better. I don’t set up where I’m hidden behind the tree when they are at shooting range. I don’t want to have to move out and around for a shot when they are that close. The higher you are the more movement you can get away with and better your chances are of not getting winded.
Not having to move is more important to me than hiding behind the tree.

You should be able to shoot from 1 o'clock to 6 o'clock position since you are left handed. The feeder should be in that direction.

Hunting over chum, you need to pick a tree setup that gives you the advantage. Put some kind of barrier to travel behind you like a lake or river bank or a field edge. You have the access advantage and virtually eliminate deer coming from behind you. Hunt it when the wind is going to your entry point. Set your chum at your 1-2 o'clock.
